Public Prosecution Service East Kalimantan seizes hundreds of billions in illegal mining case
The Public Prosecution Service of East Kalimantan, through its special investigators for serious crime, has seized 214,283,871,000 rupiah in cash in connection with the alleged illegal mining case involving PT. JMB Group in the Kutai Kartanegara district.
Toni Yuswanto, Head of Legal Information at the Public Prosecution Service of East Kalimantan, stated that the seizure of hundreds of billions of rupiah is part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged corruption and illegal mining case involving PT. JMB Group. “This case is being handled based on the investigation order issued by the Head of the Public Prosecution Service of East Kalimantan, number: Print-04.f/O.4/Fd.1/1/2026, dated January 19, 2026,” stated Toni Yuswanto, Head of Legal Information, in a written statement on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
6 Suspects in Illegal Mining
During the investigation, the Special Investigation Team of the Public Prosecution Service of East Kalimantan identified six individuals as suspects, drawn from both the private sector and government officials. All suspects have been taken into custody for questioning.
In addition to the seizure of hundreds of billions of rupiah, investigators from the Special Investigation Team of the Public Prosecution Service of East Kalimantan also seized various other pieces of evidence, including several luxury goods suspected of being linked to the proceeds of corruption. “The seizure was carried out on the basis of the provisions of Article 118 of Law No. 20 of 2025 on the Code of Criminal Procedure, within the framework of efforts to gather evidence and clearly bring the committed crime to light,” according to the spokesperson.
Evidence seized by the Public Prosecution Service
The seized evidence includes various luxury handbags from international brands such as Tory Burch, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Salvatore Ferragamo, Gucci, Burberry, and Hermès. In addition, various gold jewelry, including necklaces, brooches, and chains, were seized.
Furthermore, the investigation team also seized four passenger cars: a 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV, a 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, a 2012 Lexus LX 570, and a Hyundai Creta Prime. “This resolute action by the Public Prosecution Service of East Kalimantan demonstrates the determination of the Adhyaksa institution to eradicate corruption, particularly corruption related to the management of state assets in strategic sectors such as mining,” he stated.
He added that the Public Prosecution Service of East Kalimantan, Supardi, emphasized that efforts to protect state finances will remain a top priority, while simultaneously having a deterrent effect on perpetrators of corruption who harm the state and society. ***adh
