Bobby Nasution confirms start of road and bridge construction on the West Nias-Niasbar route in August
The Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, has confirmed that construction of the road between the regencies of South Nias (Nisel) and West Nias (Nisbar) will begin in August 2026.
He made this commitment during an inspection of the condition of the section of road along the west coast, which is severely damaged.
Bobby Nasution conducted the inspection as part of a series of works on the Nias Islands. He and his entourage traveled along the road from the village of Silimbowo Siwalawa in Lolowau District, South Nias, to Sirombu District in West Nias, to check the readiness for infrastructure development on this strategic route.
During a visit to the road construction project sign of the Ministry of Public Works, Construction and Public Works (BMBKCK), Bobby emphasized that the work will be carried out in phases, starting in the Lolowau district and continuing into the West Nias region.
“For this first phase, we are building a road from here (Lolowau District) to West Nias,” Bobby told the residents.
In addition to inspecting the road, Bobby also checked the condition of the Lahomi Bridge, which was partially damaged and therefore had to be temporarily covered with coconut logs.

“We are working on it in phases, ladies and gentlemen; it cannot be done all at once. We will start next month (August 2026),” said Bobby, noting that the first construction phase will cover 2.3 kilometers.
On that occasion, Bobby also addressed the community’s concerns regarding the repair of the irrigation network, which supplies water to approximately 500 hectares of rice fields. Currently, most irrigation canals are no longer functioning optimally due to a limited water supply.
“Actually, the province is responsible for areas between 1,000 and 3,000 hectares. Everything below that falls under the responsibility of the district government. But if necessary, we (the provincial government of North Sumatra) can provide assistance,” said Bobby, accompanied by Kahiyang Ayu, chairman of the North Sumatra Family Welfare Movement (TP PKK).
Bobby also reminded the community to support and promote the development process so that it can proceed smoothly. He emphasized that projects such as the construction of sewage systems around residential areas require the full support of the community.

Meanwhile, Lestari Buulolo, a resident of the Lolowau district, expressed her gratitude for the start of road construction, which the community had been looking forward to for decades. “We are very grateful to the governor for the construction of this road. Moreover, he came to inspect the site himself. This is exactly what we had hoped for,” said Lestari.
According to Lestari, the road construction not only improves the community’s mobility but also offers significant opportunities for the development of the tourism sector on the west coast of the island of Nias, which boasts immense natural beauty.
In addition to inspecting the road and the bridge, the governor, along with delegations from the South Nias and West Nias regencies, also greeted the residents along the route.
