Matauli Pandan 1 State Secondary School is the first public school in Indonesia to receive IB Diploma Programme accreditation
The Governor of North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution, expressed his appreciation for the achievement of Matauli Pandan 1 State Secondary School: obtaining IB Diploma Programme accreditation and officially joining the IB World School network. This achievement makes Matauli Pandan 1 State Secondary School the first public secondary school in Indonesia to offer the IB Diploma Programme.
Nasution expressed his appreciation during a visit by the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Matauli Foundation, Fitri Krisnawati Tandjung, the Director of Matauli Pandan 1 State Secondary School, Deden Rachmawan, and a group of students to his office at the Governor of North Sumatra’s office, Jalan Diponegoro No. 30, Medan. According to Nasution, this success is the result of the hard work of all involved and a source of pride for the residents of North Sumatra.

“Those of us who were born earlier did not have the opportunity to attend an IB-certified school like you do now. This is the result of hard work that deserves appreciation. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make Matauli a source of pride for North Sumatra,” he said.
Bobby also emphasized that the president attaches great value to the education sector. Therefore, the provincial government of North Sumatra will translate this commitment into various policy measures that support the quality of education in the region.
He hopes that Matauli Pandan 1 Public High School can become an example for leading schools in North Sumatra, with an education policy that not only meets national standards but can also compete globally.
On that occasion, Bobby spoke with the students about their ambitions. They gave diverse answers, ranging from police officer, judge, mining engineer to even nuclear scientist. Bobby also encouraged the students to continue studying hard, improve their competencies, and prepare for Indonesia Emas 2045. He is convinced that the younger generation plays a strategic role in the development of Indonesia into a prosperous, competitive nation capable of competing internationally.

Fitri Krisnawati Tandjung, Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Matauli Foundation, stated that the certification for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program achieved by Matauli Pandan 1 Public High School (SMAN 1) is a historic milestone for Indonesian education. This achievement makes Matauli Pandan 1 Public High School the first public school in Indonesia, and the first public school in North Sumatra, authorized to offer the IB Diploma Program.
She indicated that the various challenges facing the Tapanuli district, including natural disasters, have not dampened the ambition to further develop education. With this certification, the Matauli Foundation hopes that every class will achieve the best possible results. One of the ongoing objectives is to increase the number of students receiving Letters of Acceptance (LoA) from foreign universities, while simultaneously creating more opportunities for scholarships, including full scholarships.
Fitri also emphasized that the Matauli Foundation is committed to sharing experiences and best practices with the ecosystem of leading schools to improve the quality of teaching staff and to build, together, an education system capable of producing a generation of young Indonesians with character, excellence, and a global competitive position.
