Leading Vocational School for Tourism with Boarding School Concept in Samosir
The Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, will build a leading vocational school (SMK) with a focus on tourism in the Samosir district. The boarding school concept is designed to train highly qualified professionals ready to support the development of the region around Lake Toba into a world-class tourist destination.
Bobby Nasution announced this intention during the National Workers’ Meeting (Rakernas) of the Indonesian Student Association (PSBI) at the Aryaduta Hotel in Jakarta. “We are building a leading school in Samosir. This will be a vocational school for tourism,” Bobby said in his speech.

According to Bobby, the school will not only be a place of learning, but also a place where the character and mental preparation of the students are developed. All educational costs will be covered by the provincial government of North Sumatra.
“It concerns a boarding school, and all costs are covered by the government, not only for teaching materials but also for the mental preparation of the students,” the governor declared optimistically.
He also expressed his appreciation for the support of the government of the Samosir district in making land available for the school. He indicated that the planning phase was well advanced, allowing construction to begin soon.
“We have prepared the land; we just need to build. We have already secured the building permit,” he explained.

In addition to the development of the education sector, Bobby also emphasized the importance of transforming cultural management in North Sumatra to create added value for the community. He stated that cultural preservation must be developed through a creative industrial approach to guarantee sustainability and economic benefits.
“We no longer live in an era of static preservation, but of industrial preservation,” he emphasized to the PSBI leaders.
On that occasion, Bobby also proposed integrating the regional drinking water companies (PDAM) throughout North Sumatra as a solution to the problem of clean water supply in the various regions.
Meanwhile, PSBI Chairman Effendi Simbolon put forward three key aspirations, which he considered fundamental issues within the community.
First, regarding infrastructure, he emphasized the limited availability of clean water and irrigation water in the Samosir Regency.

“It is the only regency situated in the middle of a body of water, and yet it is struggling with a water shortage. Both clean water and irrigation water,” said Effendi.
Second, regarding Aquafarm’s activities in the Lake Toba area, he stated that the Indonesian Board of Commissioners (PSBI) does not want the company to close, but does demand that it take responsibility for environmental sustainability.
“We do not want to close Aquafarm, but we do ask Aquafarm to implement water and wastewater treatment,” he emphasized.
Thirdly, the PSBI emphasized the importance of preserving and protecting Batak culture as ancestral heritage that embodies the identity of the community.
“We live and grow up to this day inextricably linked to the DNA of the Batak people, namely our culture. So please, because within that culture lies art, and the many different art forms that belong to it,” he said. ***rel
