Large drug syndicate busted, Medan police dismantle international network

Medan police have busted a large-scale international drug trafficking network that used ships to smuggle evidence in the waters between Asahan and Tanjung Balai.

As a result of this investigation, two individuals, identified as YNP (30) and SB (59), were arrested, along with 80 kg of methamphetamine and 50,000 ecstasy pills.

The interrogation revealed that the two suspects had been instructed by L (a fugitive) to transport the drugs to Pekanbaru, Riau.

Medan police subsequently arrested two suspected undocumented migrants, RF (19) and AP (21), for transporting 5,000 ecstasy pills and 250 bottles of e-cigarette liquid containing narcotics from Malaysia. Both were arrested in the waters of Tanjungbalai.

Medan police also foiled an attempted ship-to-ship smuggling of 15 kg of methamphetamine. Five individuals, identified as MR, ZS, MF, MH, and HP, were arrested.

During their operation, the perpetrators disguised the methamphetamine in jerrycans modified to look like they contained diesel.

“The revelation of this case demonstrates the determination of the Medan police to eradicate drug trafficking and prevent drugs from entering Medan,” said Police Chief Jean Calvijn Simanjuntak on Sunday (February 22, 2026).

Suspects arrested, evidence destroyed

He explained that the operation against drug trafficking was the culmination of 100 days of work following President Prabowo’s Asta Cita (Asta Cita) program to eradicate drugs in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia.

“The suspects have been arrested. The seized drug evidence will be destroyed,” he concluded.
