North Sumatra Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution attended the virtual inauguration of 1,151 kilometers of regional roads in 37 provinces, built through the Presidential Instruction (Inpres) on Regional Roads (IJD). The inauguration took place in Sampang Regency, East Java.

For the North Sumatra region, four IJD packages for the 2025 Fiscal Year (TA) with a total road length of 7.10 km were also inaugurated at the event.

Governor Bobby Nasution attended the inauguration via virtual connection from the Tengku Rizal Nurdin Hall, the North Sumatra Governor’s Official Residence, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman 41, Medan. The event was part of the implementation of Presidential Instruction Number 11 of 2025 concerning the Acceleration of Increasing Regional Road Connectivity to Support Food and Energy Self-Sufficiency.

Also in attendance were Hardy Siahaan, Head of the North Sumatra National Road Implementation Agency (BBPJN) of the Ministry of Public Works; Chandra Dalimunthe, Head of the North Sumatra Highways, Construction, and Public Works Agency (BMBKCK); and several regional heads.

According to Ministry of Public Works data, the 2025 Single Year Contract (SYC) IJD package in North Sumatra covers four road sections, which were inaugurated by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

These four sections are the 2-kilometer Tebingtinggi-Sibulan City Boundary Road Preservation in Serdangbedagai Regency; the 1.12-kilometer Simpang Mangga-Tugu Sujono Road in Simalungun Regency; the 1.7-kilometer Sirongit-Lancang Road in Toba Regency; and the 2.28-kilometer Jenderal Sudirman Road in Tebingtinggi City.

Meanwhile, road construction through the Multi-Year Contract (MYC) scheme covers 19 road sections still under construction. However, most of the physical progress has reached 100 percent, and they are spread across 13 regencies/cities.

Following the inauguration, Governor Bobby Nasution held a meeting with Hardy Siahaan, Head of the North Sumatra National Road Development Agency (BBPJN), to discuss the implementation of road infrastructure development under the authority of the central government in North Sumatra.

According to him, several national roads are in good condition, but several others still require attention, as the national road network in North Sumatra stretches approximately 2,600 km.

“Some areas require attention. But with this IJD, the community, especially those in agricultural areas or food barns, will be greatly assisted. Those who previously had difficulty transporting their crops will now find it easier, and transportation costs will certainly be lower. We should be grateful to the President,” said the Governor.

Previously, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated that the development of regional road infrastructure would facilitate the movement of agricultural, plantation, and fishery products, as well as various community products, from villages to markets and industrial areas.

“Food self-sufficiency is not just about seeds, fertilizer, and irrigation. Energy self-sufficiency is not just about energy. It is also the result of a smooth and well-functioning distribution network. With the completion of this road, I urge regional governments to maintain the infrastructure as best as possible,” said President Prabowo. ***rel
