Construction of logistics warehouse on Nias to guarantee supplies during bad weather
The Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, will build a logistics warehouse in the Ro-Ro port area of the Gunungsitoli Idanoi district, in the city of Gunungsitoli.
The facility will serve as a supply control center to prevent disruptions in distribution and guarantee the availability of strategic goods on the Nias Islands, particularly during bad weather.
Nasution announced this plan during an inspection of the Ro-Ro port construction site. He was accompanied during the visit by the Mayor of Gunungsitoli, Sowa’a Laoli.
According to Nasution, the logistics warehouse in the port area will become a central distribution center for the entire Nias Islands. To support the planning, the provincial government of North Sumatra will collaborate with the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) to map the flow of goods to and from the region.
“To this end, we must collaborate with the BPS (Central Bureau of Statistics) to measure the volume of goods flows here,” said Nasution.
He believes that the Gunungsitoli Ro-Ro port area has great development potential due to its strategic location with land connections to all regions of the Nias Islands.

The presence of a logistics warehouse is also expected to improve the cost efficiency of distribution, accelerate goods distribution, and stimulate regional economic growth.
“Ensure that this functions properly and can serve as a means to control the supply of basic products and other strategic materials. The problem here is the weather conditions that disrupt goods distribution from Sumatra,” said Bobby Nasution.
Meanwhile, Yuda Setiawan, head of the North Sumatran Transport Agency, explained that the Ro-Ro port area covers an area of approximately 25,915 m². This area is divided into several zones: a warehouse of 5,668 m², a parking lot of 3,205 m², a terminal zone of 4,510 m², and a utility zone of 2,977 m².
The Provincial Government of North Sumatra aims to start construction and development of the Ro-Ro port area this year. This is intended to strengthen the logistics system and better regulate the flow of goods to the Nias Islands. ***REL
