PRSU Proposed for National Events Calendar
The Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, expressed his appreciation for the support from House of Representatives Committee VII (DPR RI) for the inclusion of the North Sumatra Fair (PRSU) in the Ministry of Tourism’s national events calendar. This support was conveyed during a special working visit to the 50th PRSU in Medan.
Bobby stated that this year’s PRSU was the first under his leadership and provided a boost to the recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic. He believes that the PRSU forms a platform that unites the human resource, culture, and creative economy potential of North Sumatra.

“Other regions might showcase only one type of dance, but in North Sumatra, at least five ethnic groups are represented through traditional clothing, cultural parades, and dances. This diversity offers enormous potential for strengthening the culture, human resources, and economy,” said Bobby.
He hopes that PRSU can secure a place on the national events calendar, thereby strengthening cultural promotion and stimulating regional economic growth.
Bobby also reminded all district and city administrations in North Sumatra to set aside sectoral egos when supporting PRSU. According to him, there are still regions with pavilions, but they are not being utilized to their full potential.
“There should be no question of regional egos. The pavilions already exist, but they are not being opened or used to present their respective regions to the public,” he said.
According to Bobby, the success of PRSU is not only the success of the North Sumatra provincial government or the governor, but also the success of all residents of North Sumatra. If PRSU is included on the national agenda, it is expected to become a driving force for the regional economy through the cultural and tourism sectors.
After the meeting, Bobby and a delegation from Committee VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) visited various district/city pavilions, including those of the regencies of Asahan, Karo, and Deliserdang.
Evita Nursanty, Chair of the specific working visit team of Committee VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), noted that as PRSU approaches its 50th anniversary, it is necessary to further develop into a more professional event that delivers concrete benefits for the community.
“I see a strong desire to make PRSU not just a place for entertainment, but a space with a broad economic and social impact. PRSU must become a showcase for culture, SMEs, and the creative economy, as well as a promotional tool for tourism and regional potential,” she said.

According to Evita, PRSU has developed into a showcase for culture, tourism, SMEs, and the creative economy, with participation from all regencies/cities in North Sumatra, and even from Penang Island in Malaysia.
She encouraged PRSU to draw up an ambitious development plan for the next five to ten years so that it can grow into a center for exhibitions, fairs, art, culture, and the creative economy, capable of attracting tourists, buyers, and investors from both home and abroad.
Evita also proposed establishing a dedicated tourism pavilion and creating opportunities for participation by SMEs from outside the region. She stated that Committee VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) is prepared to strengthen synergy with the relevant ministries so that PRSU can be included in the national events calendar and receive support from the central government.
“In the future, PRSU must develop into a center for exhibitions, trade, art, culture, and the creative economy, capable of attracting buyers and investors from abroad. This requires cooperation from all parties, because it cannot be done alone,” she said.

Ferry Indra, Director of PT Pembangunan Infrasarana Sumatera Utara (PPSU), expressed his appreciation for the visit by Committee VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), which he viewed as a form of support for PRSU as a forum for cultural preservation and as a driving force for the regional economy.
He stated that the 50th edition of PRSU this year was attended by 33 district/city pavilions and one pavilion from a friendly country. All activities were organized without using the regional budget, but through a partnership.
“Seventy-five percent of the event’s content was presented by local people, demonstrating our commitment to making PRSU a leading platform for local artists, culture, and creative professionals,” he said. ***rel
