The 2026 Wealth Report: The number of wealthy Indonesians is growing

Indonesia is expected to become the country with the highest growth in the number of ultra-rich individuals (UHNWIs) in the world over the next five years.

This forecast is included in the 2026 Wealth Report, published by Knight Frank, which shows that Indonesia can achieve very rapid wealth growth compared to other countries.

The report estimates that the number of people in Indonesia with a net worth of at least US$ 30 million, or approximately IDR 490 billion, will increase by 82% between 2026 and 2031.

While the number of ultra-rich individuals in Indonesia was estimated at 3,833 in 2026, this number is expected to rise to approximately 6,966 in 2031. This significant growth is driven by various factors, including the rapid expansion of the business sector, technological developments creating new business opportunities, increased investment activity in diverse sectors, and the rising value of various types of assets, such as stocks, real estate, and other investments.

These circumstances enable more entrepreneurs and investors to accumulate substantial wealth.

This forecast also reflects optimism regarding Indonesia’s economic prospects in the coming years. With a large population, a growing middle class, accelerated digital transformation, and diverse development policies and industrial downstreaming, Indonesia is considered to have a strong foundation for the creation of more wealthy individuals.

However, the growth in the number of super-rich also reminds us that economic equality remains a major challenge.

On the one hand, the increase in the number of wealthy individuals indicates growing economic activity and investment.

On the other hand, however, this growth must also be balanced with job creation, higher productivity in society, and a fair distribution of wealth, so that the benefits of economic growth are felt more broadly by all segments of the population. ***tok
