Medan’s Class 1 Prison Improves Inmate Healthcare During Ramadan

The Tanjung Gusta Correctional Institution (Lapas) in Medan is improving inmate healthcare during Ramadan. Physical examinations and checkups are conducted at the clinic at Medan’s Class 1 prison.

The examinations include blood pressure measurements, general health checks, medical consultations, and the provision of vitamins and medications as prescribed.

Inmate Healthcare Takes Center Stage for Prison Director During Ramadan

A doctor at the clinic at Medan’s Class 1 prison explained that dietary changes and rest periods during Ramadan can affect health and require precautionary measures.

“During the fasting month, risks such as dehydration, stomach problems, and low blood pressure must be taken into account. Therefore, we are improving monitoring and healthcare so that any complaints can be addressed quickly,” he explained on Monday (March 2).

Separately, Fonika Affandi, Head of Medan Prison (Category I), stated that the dynamism of Ramadan reinforces our commitment to providing more responsive and humane care.

Health programs demonstrate attention to inmate well-being

“Ramadan is a month of compassion. This improvement in healthcare demonstrates our concern for the health of inmates, so that they can properly fulfill their religious duties and fully participate in the development program,” she said.

With this initiative, Medan Prison (Category I) reaffirms its commitment to continue providing optimal, targeted, and sustainable healthcare as part of a comprehensive development program for inmates.***
