Scholarships from the Health Polytechnic School in Gunungsitoli for children of the Nias Islands
The Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, has expressed his support for higher education in healthcare, particularly for children on the Nias Islands.
This support is being realized through scholarships for students of the Health Polytechnic School (Poltekkes) in Gunungsitoli, to help students facing financial difficulties.
During a visit to the Ministry of Health’s Poltekkes in Gunungsitoli, Bobby Nasution indicated that many students are unable to continue their studies due to financial problems.
This situation is urgent in order to meet the need for healthcare personnel on the Nias Islands.
According to collected data, only 23 of the 66 students admitted in the first semester are actively attending classes. The remaining 43 students had to discontinue their studies due to financial problems. “This is a problem, both for healthcare workers on the Nias Islands and for our children’s chances of finding work,” said Bobby Nasution.
Bobby explained that the scholarships will be integrated into the existing student finance quota. Although the Ministry of Public Health has set a scholarship quota of 20 percent for students from Medan Poltekkes, the provincial government of North Sumatra will strive to increase coverage to at least 50 percent through cooperation.

“As a local government that cares about its residents, we offer facilities so that they can benefit from the facilities that this ministry (Poltekkes) provides. So our goal is 50 percent, and hopefully we can achieve that through scholarships,” said Bobby.
Destin Murni Laoli, a third-year student from Poltekkes, expressed her gratitude for the attention of Governor Bobby Nasution. The student, who had to interrupt her studies due to financial problems, hopes that the scholarship will help her complete her education. Destin, the eldest of three children, explained that her family’s financial situation has become even more difficult due to her mother’s illness.
“I am very happy that I met Mr. Bobby. He helped me enormously with the financing of my studies. I am very happy. Thank you, Mr. Bobby, for your help,” said Destin, visibly moved. ***rel
