Preparations for the North Sumatra Provincial Games 2026 (Porprovsu XII): Ensure a smooth process

The Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, has requested that all preparations for the North Sumatra Provincial Games 2026 (Porprovsu XII) be thoroughly finalized so that the event becomes a success without complaints from athletes or participants.

“The quality of the event must be better than that of previous editions, particularly regarding accommodation, meals, and transport,” said Bobby Nasution during an audience with the Indonesian National Sports Committee of North Sumatra (KONI) at the Governor’s office at Jalan Diponegoro No. 30 in Medan.

During the meeting, the technical preparations for Porprovsu XII 2026 were discussed, which are scheduled from November 7 to 15, 2026. The Governor was accompanied by the Acting Regional Secretary of the Province of North Sumatra, Sulaiman Harahap.

“I request that critical complaints, such as those regarding accommodation, food, and transport, be handled properly. There must be no obstacles on the ground. We must ensure that this year’s Porprovsu (North Sumatra Provincial Sports Week) is of a much higher quality than previous editions,” emphasized Bobby Nasution.

In his speech, Bobby praised the new management of North Sumatra KONI for their swift action in preparing this provincial sports event. He reiterated the importance of maintaining the quality of the competition and guaranteeing basic rights and facilities for athletes and participants from all regions/cities.

Furthermore, Bobby reminded everyone that the committee structure must be effective and efficient, without excessive staff. He emphasized that the budget should be focused more on athlete development and supporting the successful execution of the competition.

Meanwhile, Hatunggal Siregar, Chairman of the National Sports Committee of North Sumatra (KONI), explained that the XII Provincial Sports Week of North Sumatra (Porprovsu XII) in 2026 is a follow-up to the results of the KONI working group meeting in December 2025.

The event, which includes multiple disciplines and is organized at the provincial level, is expected to attract 8,525 participants, consisting of 5,393 athletes (3,737 men and 1,656 women), 1,079 officials, and 2,056 committee members, who will compete in 28 sports.

“In total, 28 sports that meet the minimum participation requirements, originating from 17 districts/cities, will be contested. The competitions will take place in three major, verified regions: Medan, Deli Serdang, and Binjai,” said Siregar.

He further explained that the committee has prepared 1,449 events, with a total of 2,742 medals to be won. To support the mobility of the participants, 624 minibuses and 161 buses have been made available.

In healthcare, the National Sports Committee of North Sumatra (KONI) has also collaborated with various referral hospitals, including Haji Hospital and Hermina Hospital, to ensure emergency medical care during the Porprovsu (North Sumatra Provincial Sports Week).

“This event will be integrated with the SME sector and the cooperatives’ office/PPKUMKM to stimulate the culinary sector, the hotel industry, and regional tourism during the competitions,” said Hatunggal.

He added that the Porprovsu XII of 2026 offers a strategic opportunity to identify and select talented athletes in North Sumatra. The best athletes will subsequently be prepared through a regional training center program (Pelatda) leading up to the 22nd National Sports Week (PON) in 2028 in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Regarding the location for the opening ceremony, KONI North Sumatra has prepared various options, including the North Sumatra Capital Stadium. The choice of venue will take into account the capacity and comfort of the approximately 13,340 spectators and participants. ***REL
