Employees of Pegadaian within the operational area of PT Pegadaian (Persero) Regional Office 1 Medan held a solemn ceremony to honor Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day, which falls on August 17, 2026.

Also in attendance were Yohanis Wulang, Head of PT Pegadaian (Persero) Regional Office 1 Medan, along with his deputies, department heads, branch managers, and hundreds of Pegadaian Medan employees who graced the ceremony marking Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day.

The theme for the commemoration of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day in 2026 is: “Indonesia is Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous.” This theme is not merely a slogan; it embodies a higher purpose that is our shared responsibility.

“Sovereign” means that Indonesia has the power to manage its own potential and national wealth. “Just” means that development and opportunities must extend to all strata of Indonesian society.

And “prosperous” means that every advance we make must ultimately improve the quality of life for the Indonesian people. This spirit is highly relevant to the message conveyed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, during his state address at the annual session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the joint session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) on August 14, 2026.

“The President emphasized that state-owned enterprises must be productive, well-managed, and capable of creating added value for the community. On that occasion, the President specifically expressed his appreciation for PT Pegadaian (Persero), whose net profit in the first half of 2026 reached IDR 6.59 trillion—a year-on-year growth of 84.4 percent compared to 2025,” stated Damar Latri Setiawan, President Director of PT Pegadaian (Persero), in his commemorative speech on August 17, 2026, which was read by Yohanis Wulang, Head of PT Pegadaian (Persero) Regional Office 1 Medan.

For all Pegadaian employees, this is undoubtedly a source of pride. However, this recognition is not the ultimate goal. Rather, it marks the beginning of a greater mandate and responsibility, requiring PT Pegadaian (Persero) to demonstrate increasing commitment and consistency in working better, harder, and with greater integrity.

“Therefore, we must not evaluate the company’s performance solely based on figures. Growth—along with corporate performance and development—must be driven by a spirit of care and a commitment to the well-being of the Indonesian nation and state,” he said.

“We continue to strive to realize this spirit through: improved service, broader access to services, stronger support for SMEs, increasingly inclusive digital financial solutions, and fairer social and environmental responsibility programs for all segments of Indonesian society.”

He also stated that Pegadaian’s Gold Bank manages 153 tons of gold with an estimated value of 360 trillion Indonesian rupiah. “Indonesia’s wealth must be capable of strengthening savings, financing, and the national economy,” he said.

This message is of great importance to us. It is not enough to simply mine Indonesian gold. We must also build an independent gold ecosystem focused on storing, managing, trading, and adding value to the gold within our own country.

Here, Pegadaian plays an increasingly important role, with an ever-growing task and responsibility.

“We must be able to speak not only about the growth of the Gold Bank’s performance but also about how Pegadaian can be present and play a role in maintaining and optimizing gold assets within the community. We are committed to fostering knowledge about gold across generations, expanding gold-based financial inclusion, actively developing the national gold ecosystem, and ultimately increasing our contribution to Indonesia’s economic sovereignty.”

Let us prove that Pegadaian is capable not only of growing as a company but also of serving as a pillar of national strength—supporting the growth of the grassroots economy and national development—to realize an increasingly sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia.

“With a spirit of continuous service, we realize our shared ideal of turning Indonesia into gold.” ***rel
