OJK Urged to Strengthen Halal Products Through Financial Services
North Sumatra Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution has urged the North Sumatra Financial Services Authority (OJK) to continue fostering the growth of the halal industry through Sharia-compliant financial services.
The OJK was also asked to categorize economic development needs in each district and city based on regional characteristics and potential.

Governor Bobby Nasution made these remarks during the inauguration of Triyoga Laksito—the new head of the OJK for North Sumatra province, succeeding Khoirul Muttaqien—held in the Raja Inal Siregar Hall at the North Sumatra Governor’s office.
Attendees at the ceremony included the Vice Chairman of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Hernawan Bekti Sasongko; the Acting Provincial Secretary of North Sumatra, Sulaiman Harahap; various regents and mayors; and other officials.
In his address, Bobby Nasution stated that the OJK, as an independent institution, plays a crucial role in maintaining balance.
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) is responsible for implementing an integrated regulatory and supervisory system for all activities within the financial sector, including banking, capital markets, insurance, pension funds, financing institutions, and other sectors.

“We hope the OJK can approach problems differently in each region, taking into account the unique characteristics of that area. Take, for instance, a disaster that has caused deep-seated problems for the community: how can we provide loans to affected residents when their lives remain difficult?” Bobby Nasution explained.
Nasution then encouraged the OJK to contribute to strengthening halal products through the financial sector. He explained that Indonesia still imports a large number of halal products from countries with Muslim minorities, such as China and Australia.
“How can we strengthen the halal industry within the financial sector from here? The goal is to bolster the widespread presence of halal products,” he said.
Meanwhile, Hernawan Bekti Sasongko, Vice Chairman of the OJK Board of Commissioners, expressed his appreciation for the North Sumatra provincial government’s support of the OJK in carrying out its duties in the region.

He believes this support is crucial for strengthening cooperation regarding the regulation and supervision of the financial sector.
