More than just training! This is the new face of vocational training centers (BLK): developing the workforce, fostering entrepreneurship, and boosting industrial productivity

The Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) is preparing to transform vocational training centers (BLK) into hubs for employment—centers that go beyond providing training to also support the emergence of new entrepreneurs and enhance productivity within the industrial sector.

This transformation aims to ensure that vocational training delivers tangible impact, specifically by aligning the workforce’s competencies with the needs of the business sector and by securing employment for graduates upon completion of their training.

Minister of Manpower Yassierli stated that the success of vocational training cannot be measured solely by the number of participants or the variety of programs offered.

What matters more is the extent to which the training helps participants secure employment, launch their own businesses, or enhance the skills required in the workplace.

“Training must be impactful. We cannot simply look at how many people are trained; we must also consider how many graduates find jobs, become entrepreneurs, and earn an income after completing their training,” the Minister of Manpower remarked during a visit to the Vocational and Productivity Training Center (BPVP) in Ambon, Maluku.

According to the Minister, BLK and BPVP facilities must strengthen their ties with the business and industrial sectors to ensure that their training programs are truly aligned with the demands of the labor market. Therefore, the planning of training programs must be based on an assessment of the needs of the workforce, industrial developments, and the economic potential within the respective regions.

In addition to their role as vocational training centers, BLKs are also intended to function as hubs for talent and innovation.

This function is designed to bring together training participants, aspiring entrepreneurs, industry players, and other stakeholders to develop ideas and economic opportunities.

“We are also tasking the BLKs with acting as ‘productivity clinics’ that help businesses—particularly medium-sized enterprises—improve their performance and productivity. This can strengthen the centers’ ties with the private sector, for instance through employee skills development, mentoring, and the enhancement of work process quality,” he explained.

In his directive, the Minister of Labor also emphasized the importance of strengthening the system for monitoring graduates—essentially, conducting tracer studies.

This data is essential for determining the status of participants after completing their training, evaluating the relevance of the competencies acquired, and serving as a foundation for future program improvements.

“As I have previously indicated, the target success rate for vocational training graduates—defined as securing employment or becoming self-employed—is 70 percent. This goal underscores the effort to make training more results-oriented, rather than focusing solely on the delivery of the training itself,” he said. ***rel

Bukan Sekadar Pelatihan! Begini Wajah Baru BLK: Cetak Pekerja, Wirausaha, hingga Klinik Produktivitas Industri

***rel
