Beyond just seeking employment: Young people encouraged to build an innovative ecosystem and create new jobs
Minister of Manpower Yassierli supports the younger generation in their role as innovators—individuals who do not merely look for work, but create it themselves.
“I fully endorse initiatives like this. The nation’s brightest young minds should not just be looking for jobs; they should be creating them,” stated Yassierli during his keynote address at the Grand Final Pitch and Prototype Showcase/Demo of GenoHack 2026, held at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in Bandung, West Java, on Sunday, October 25, 2026.

GenoHack 2026 was themed “Deeptech Genomics Hackathon 2026.” In the final round, nine finalists presented ideas and prototype solutions rooted in genomic technology.
Yassierli praised the event as a platform for young people to transform ideas into tangible solutions. He expressed hope that similar activities would be expanded to more universities, providing more young people with the opportunity to innovate and generate business prospects.
He also emphasized the need to increase the number of innovators in Indonesia. He believes that the potential of university graduates should be fully harnessed so that, rather than simply entering the existing labor market, they become creators of jobs for others.
“Young people should position themselves as innovators. It is these innovators who will drive increased productivity,” he said.

According to Yassierli, innovation must be supported by an ecosystem that empowers the younger generation to grow and develop meaningful, useful solutions. Therefore, collaboration between the government and universities is crucial to expand the scope for technological development.
“Naturally, the government must be involved—that is our role: how can we work together on this in the future?” he said. ***rel
***rel
