Mandrehe Health Center Modernized, Admission Facilities and Specialist Doctors Strengthened
Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution of North Sumatra is preparing to increase the capacity of the health center in Mandrehe, in the West Nias district, to provide the community with more comprehensive healthcare.
The facilities, admission facilities, and the availability of healthcare personnel are being strengthened to reduce residents’ dependence on more distant hospitals.

During his visit to the health center in Mandrehe, Bobby Nasution reviewed plans for the development of facilities and infrastructure, including additional rooms, admission facilities, and the need for healthcare personnel. The health center is the closest healthcare facility for the residents of the Mandrehe district.
“This health center is located very close to the community here (Mandrehe). The journey to the regional hospital can take up to two hours. That is why we are building an admission facility here and also adding beds, so that we can help more patients,” said Bobby Nasution, accompanied by the Regent of West Nias, Eliyunus Waruwu.
According to Bobby Nasution, the expansion of the capacity of the Mandrehe Community Health Center is a follow-up to the government’s construction of a hospital on the Nias Islands. However, people living far from the district capital also need healthcare facilities capable of providing admissions.
“We will also train specialists. Doctors are currently studying here, and more will be joining soon. In anticipation of this, we have entered into an agreement whereby doctors from the regional hospital are deployed on a rotating basis. This involves collaboration with USU and UGM, where doctors in training (general practitioners pursuing a specialization) are receiving intensive training here (on the Nias Islands) so that they can rotate between the two hospitals,” stated Bobby Nasution.

He further emphasized that the Mandrehe Community Health Center will be able to offer various medical treatments, such as internal medicine, obstetrics, pediatrics, anesthesia, and other services.
“The provincial government (Pemprov) is not the only one involved in this development either. The government of the West Nias district will provide medical equipment, such as 4D pregnancy tests and other procedures, so that patients do not have to go to the hospital,” he said.
Meanwhile, Karsa, head of the Mandrehe Community Health Center, expressed his gratitude and pride regarding the attention the North Sumatra provincial government is paying to healthcare in his region. Currently, approximately 23,000 residents of the Mandrehe district depend on the community health center for their healthcare.
“About 20-30% of our patients have to be referred to the Regional Hospital (RSUD), which is located quite far away. With this increased capacity, we can perform medical procedures here and admit more patients. We are therefore very pleased with the attention the governor is paying to the community here,” said Karsa.

After a visit to the Mandrehe Community Health Center, Bobby Nasution and his entourage continued their journey to the office of the Regent of West Nias in the Lahomi district to meet with the community. Subsequently, the group departed for the South Nias Regency. ***REL
