Landslide in Sembahe claims victims
Heavy rainfall that battered the hilly area of the Sibolangit district on Tuesday evening (April 7, 2026) led to a disaster. A landslide struck a house in the village of Sembahe, killing five members of one family. The local population is plunged into deep mourning.
The tragic incident took place around 7:00 PM, just before the Isha prayer. It is suspected that the heavy rainfall, which had continued since the afternoon, caused the landslide, which suddenly struck the residential area. The victims were unable to flee and were buried under the rubble.
Excavations started to search for buried victims
Following the dramatic evacuation, all victims were taken to the hospital for identification and burial. The following day, Wednesday (April 8, 2026), the bodies were handed over to their families for the funeral.
An emotional atmosphere hung in the Al-Qomar Mosque when prayers were offered for the five victims at 1:00 PM (WIB). The families burst into tears as soon as the ambulance arrived. Some family members could not contain their grief and fainted.
Habibullah Nasution of the Al-Qomar Mosque Board (BKM) stated that all the victims were active members of the mosque community.
