The Acting Regional Secretary of North Sumatra (Sumut) Province, Sulaiman Harahap, has expressed his support for the 2026 Work Program of the Regional Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPID) of North Sumatra.

This support includes the progress of the selection process for KPID North Sumatra members for the coming period, as well as KPID’s planned collaboration with various universities regarding the application of artificial intelligence (AI).

“I appreciate the program’s innovation and hope that the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPID) will continue to adapt to technological developments to safeguard information sovereignty in the region,” said Sulaiman Harahap during an audience with the North Sumatra KPID at the office of the Regional Secretary to the Governor of North Sumatra, Jalan Pangeran Diponegoro No. 30, Medan, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

Sulaiman also emphasized that the North Sumatra KPID plays a strategic role in monitoring radio broadcasts, particularly with regard to radio advertising.

He hopes that the principles of transparency and professionalism will be upheld at every stage of the selection process for KPID members in the coming period.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Syahrir, head of the North Sumatra KPID, stated that the North Sumatra KPID is an independent government institution that oversees broadcasting activities in accordance with Law No. 32 of 2002.

He emphasized the commitment of the North Sumatra KPID to ensuring that the public receives educational, informative, and healthy broadcasts through television, radio, and other media.

“It is our responsibility to monitor, educate, and ensure the quality of broadcasts from all broadcasting institutions, especially when disseminating diverse information that now has to compete with social media,” he said.
