Governor Bobby Gives Heru Mardiansyah 6 Months to Make Progress at Bank Sumut

North Sumatra Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution has asked Bank Sumut to achieve more progressive growth under the leadership of its new CEO.

He considers this crucial given the dynamic global environment, in which the financial sector is one of the country’s most important pillars.

According to Bobby Nasution, this message also aligns with the direction Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto set during the National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) of the central and regional governments in 2026. The financial sector is considered one of the country’s strategies for addressing current global challenges.

“This means that the financial sector is a benchmark for the nation’s foundations. If we reduce this to provincial foundations, I ask that Bank Sumut’s role be made even more progressive,” Bobby Nasution told Bank Sumut’s management at the Tengku Rizal Nurdin Hall at Jalan Jenderal Sudirman No. 41 in Medan on Wednesday (February 4, 2026).

Accelerating Bank Sumut’s Growth

To accelerate Bank Sumut’s growth, Bobby Nasution also called for strict and professional management.

The son-in-law of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia emphasized the importance of disciplined bank management, especially now that Bank Sumut is led by Heru Mardiansyah, a long-serving bank executive.

“Give the consolidation program you’ve developed six months to complete. Don’t take too long. If consolidation doesn’t work, just throw it away, sir. Besides, you are the founder of Bank Sumut. Because the CEO comes from outside the company, you will undoubtedly know and appreciate Bank Sumut better,” said Bobby Nasution.

Heru Mardiansyah’s Goal: Improving Bank Sumut’s Risk Management

Heru Mardiansyah, CEO of Bank Sumut, explained that his company has developed a 100-day work program. The first 30 days include consolidation and diagnostics, followed by the implementation and quick-win phase from days 31 through 60, and digitalization from days 61 through 100.

The program’s objectives include improving Bank Sumut’s risk profile, diversifying into a business ecosystem, improving operations, increasing digital maturity, and reducing non-performing loans (NPLs).

“Bank Sumut’s work culture must be unified, with a focus on performance, execution, and results-oriented management. We don’t want Bank Sumut to be divided into separate departments. We will also implement a cultural and digital transformation to provide optimal service, just like other banks,” said Heru Mardiansyah.

The meeting was also attended by Bank Sumut Chairman Firsal Ferial Mutyara, Independent Commissioner Erlina, and Compliance Director Eksir. Also present were Sulaiman Harahap, Acting Regional Secretary of North Sumatra Province, Dikky Anugerah, Head of Bappelitbang, and representatives from other relevant regional government agencies. ***obs
