Income-generating content creators must now have a Business Identification Number (NIB)
The government has begun implementing a policy that requires content creators who conduct professional activities and generate income via digital platforms to possess a Business Identification Number (NIB).
This policy has been in effect since June 18 and is intended for creators who conduct commercial business activities.

The NIB serves as both a business identification number and a legal basis. With an NIB, content creators gain certainty regarding their business status, easier access to financing from banks and financial institutions, and a clear administrative basis to meet their tax obligations under applicable regulations.
It is important to note that this obligation does not apply to all content creators. Creators who produce content solely as a hobby or for personal use without generating income from it are not subject to these regulations.
Creators who generate income from collaborations with brands, sponsorships, paid promotions, affiliate marketing, or generating income via digital platforms, on the other hand, are considered entrepreneurs and are therefore required to have an NIB. The application process for a NIB is free and can be completed online via the Online Single Submission (OSS) system.

During registration, creators can choose the Indonesian Standard Classification of Business Sectors (KBLI) that best suits their business type, such as video production, audio production, or digital advertising services.
With this policy, the government hopes to better organize and professionalize the digital economy ecosystem and provide legal certainty to creative companies.
Sanctions for creators without a Business Identification Number (NIB) are currently still being discussed and have not yet been officially implemented. ***tok
