Head of the West Jakarta Public Prosecutor’s Office Acts as Prosecutor, Demands the Death Penalty for Drug Suspects
The head of the West Jakarta Public Prosecutor’s Office, Dr. Nurul Wahida Rafal, SH, MH, acted as prosecutor during the hearing in the West Jakarta District Court on Monday, March 9, 2026, where the indictment against two drug suspects was read aloud.
The hearing’s agenda included the reading of the indictment by the West Jakarta Public Prosecutor’s Office against the two suspects, Adam Haziq bin Willi. and Mohd Daniel Ikhwan Maula bin Mohd Nur Iskandar Syah Abdullah.
“It is known that these two suspects are foreign citizens, Malaysians, and are part of an international drug syndicate,” said Dannie Chaerudin, head of the intelligence section of the West Jakarta Public Prosecutor’s Office, on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
Methamphetamine dealers and distributors face the death penalty
The West Jakarta Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested the death penalty for these two methamphetamine dealers and distributors. The prosecutor stated that there were no mitigating circumstances in this case.
The West Jakarta Public Prosecutor’s Office, who acted as prosecutor during the trial, stated that the two suspects were found guilty of attempting or conspiring to illegally or unlawfully receive and act as intermediaries in the sale of Class I narcotics, not plants, weighing more than five grams.
The suspects’ actions are against the law and harm the country’s young generation
“Their actions are not only against the law, but also harm the country’s young generation,” stated the head of the intelligence agency, Dannie Chaerudin.
These actions are regulated and punishable by Article 114, paragraph (2), in conjunction with Article 132, paragraph (1), of Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotic Drugs, in conjunction with Article 3, paragraph (1), of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code and Law No. 1 of 2026 on Criminal Law Amendments.
“For the suspects’ actions, the public prosecutor demands that the judges sentence both suspects to death,” read the indictment read aloud by the West Jakarta prosecutor during the trial.
This death penalty request is the first filed in 2026 by a prosecutor within the jurisdiction of the Jakarta Special Region Prosecutor’s Office against a foreign national in a drug case.
Indications of a transnational drug trafficking network
The involvement of the two suspects, both foreigners, also points to the existence of a transnational drug trafficking network that could jeopardize the future of the country by distributing drugs in Indonesia.
The trial will then continue with the defense (plea) being presented by the suspects and their lawyers, in accordance with applicable criminal law.
The presence of the West Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office that day provided support and oversight, demonstrating its commitment to ensuring that the case is handled professionally, objectively, and in accordance with the law. ***adh
