Free Wi-Fi Launched in Padangsidimpuan: Governor Bobby Inaugurates 8 Cities

North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution simultaneously launched free Wi-Fi services in eight cities in North Sumatra, supported by 49 access points.

The eight areas include Kebun Bunga Park and Cadika Park in Medan, Al Abror Grand Mosque in Padangsidimpuan, Sultan Abdul Jalil Rahmadsyah Field in Tanjung Balai, Haji Adam Malik Field in Pematangsiantar, Mersing Sri Mersing Field in Tebingtinggi, Simaremare Field in Sibolga, Gunungsitoli City Square, and Binjai Merdeka Park.

The launch of the free Wi-Fi took place on Sunday, March 1, 2026, in the courtyard of the Al Abror Mosque in Padangsidimpuan.

Governor Bobby’s ‘Best Quick Results’ Program

This free internet program is one of Governor Bobby Nasution’s six ‘Best Quick Results’ programs (PHTC), namely the digitalization of public services, fast, responsive, reliable, and solution-oriented (CERDAS).

“This internet network is an essential and integral part. That’s why we strive to ensure that our community is connected to the internet so that we can obtain better information in the future,” said Bobby.

Bobby called on regional administrators in the areas where the free Wi-Fi has been installed to expand its use beyond simply providing internet access. He encouraged the development of supporting facilities in the area.

“Not just the launch, but also the maintenance. You can create facilities to enjoy the internet, whether for work or to set up a workspace, and you can also place chairs and tables,” said Bobby.

Free internet benefits Padangsidimpuan residents

Winda, a resident of Padangsidimpuan, indicated that she has already experienced the benefits of free internet. She expressed her appreciation for Governor Bobby Nasution’s initiative to bring this service to her city.

“Thank you, Governor Bobby Nasution, for making free internet available. This is undoubtedly very beneficial for the residents of Padangsidimpuan,” Winda said.

Besides the community, Padangsidimpuan Lieutenant Mayor Dalimunthe also expressed his appreciation for the PHTC program established by Governor Bobby Nasution, especially for the attention it is giving to his region.

Free Wi-Fi will remain available until 2029

The head of the North Sumatra Communications and Information Agency, Erwin Hotmansah Harahap, stated that his agency will expand the area where the free Wi-Fi program is available, in addition to the eight cities mentioned earlier.

By 2026, five disaster-affected regions will also benefit from Governor Bobby Nasution’s PHTC program.

“Free Wi-Fi will remain available until 2029. The program aims to reach all areas in North Sumatra, in 33 districts/cities,” Erwin said. ***obs
