BRT: Comfortable and Reliable Public Transport for the Residents of North Sumatra
The North Sumatra provincial government remains committed to improving public services, particularly in the public transport sector.
The implementation and development of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is one of the strategic steps taken to provide comfortable and reliable public transport.

North Sumatra Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution emphasized that public transport is an essential public need that the government must continue to meet.
Therefore, the North Sumatra provincial government fully supports the development of BRT as part of its efforts to enhance the quality of public services.
Bobby made these remarks during a meeting with Agus Fatoni, Director General of Regional Financial Development at the Ministry of Home Affairs, and officials from Jasa Raharja at his office in the North Sumatra Governor’s complex on Jalan Diponegoro, Medan, on Monday, August 31, 2026.
“Given our commitment to delivering priority services, the provincial government wholeheartedly supports BRT,” said Bobby.
According to Bobby, the benchmark for the success of public services in a region is not a surge in the number of private vehicles. Rather, success is reflected in the government’s ability to establish public transport as the primary mode of travel.
As part of public transport development, Governor Bobby recently inaugurated the Mebidang BRT line, which serves the Medan-Binjai and Medan-Lubukpakam routes. Currently, the public can still use the service free of charge.
Bobby also stated that the organization that will manage the BRT is currently being developed and is expected to be ready by the end of 2026. This is intended to ensure optimal and sustainable public transport management.
“And we aim to finalize the organizational setup by the end of 2026,” he said.

Meanwhile, Agus Fatoni, Director General of Regional Financial Development at the Ministry of Home Affairs, stated that his department would continue to support the North Sumatra provincial government.
He hopes that North Sumatra will continue to develop and progress, improve the well-being of its population, and make a significant contribution to national development.
“That is why we support North Sumatra and are fully committed to it. North Sumatra will continue to develop and progress, its people will prosper, and the province will make a significant contribution to the nation,” said Fatoni.
Aan Suhanan, President Commissioner of Jasa Raharja, stated that his agency would continue to collaborate with the North Sumatra provincial government.

This collaboration aims to reduce traffic accidents and increase public compliance with motor vehicle tax (PKB) payments.

BRT: Transportasi Publik yang Nyaman dan Dapat Diandalkan Masyarakat Sumatera Utara
Pemerintah Provinsi (Pemprov) Sumatera Utara (Sumut) terus memperkuat komitmennya dalam membenahi layanan publik, khususnya sektor transportasi massal.
Pembangunan dan pengembangan Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) menjadi salah satu langkah strategis untuk menghadirkan transportasi publik yang nyaman dan dapat diandalkan masyarakat.
Gubernur Sumut Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution menegaskan, transportasi umum merupakan salah satu kebutuhan penting masyarakat yang harus terus dipenuhi pemerintah.
Oleh karena itu, Pemprov Sumut memberikan dukungan penuh terhadap pengembangan BRT sebagai bagian dari upaya meningkatkan kualitas pelayanan publik.
Hal tersebut disampaikan Bobby saat menerima audiensi Direktur Jenderal Bina Keuangan Daerah Kementerian Dalam Negeri Agus Fatoni dan jajaran Jasa Raharja di ruang kerjanya, Kantor Gubernur Sumut, Jalan Diponegoro, Medan, Senin, 31 Agustus 2026.
“Karena komitmen kita memberikan pelayanan yang utama, Pemprov sangat mendukung (BRT),” kata Bobby.
Menurut Bobby, tolok ukur keberhasilan pelayanan publik di suatu daerah bukan terletak pada tingginya pertumbuhan kendaraan pribadi. Keberhasilan tersebut, menurutnya, tercermin dari kemampuan pemerintah menjadikan transportasi massal sebagai moda utama mobilitas masyarakat.
Sebagai bagian dari pengembangan transportasi massal, beberapa waktu lalu Gubernur Bobby telah meresmikan BRT Mebidang yang melayani rute Medan-Binjai dan Medan-Lubukpakam. Saat ini, masyarakat masih dapat menggunakan layanan tersebut tanpa dikenakan tarif.
Bobby juga menyampaikan, organisasi yang akan mengelola BRT tengah disusun dan ditargetkan selesai pada akhir 2026. Dengan demikian, pengelolaan transportasi massal tersebut diharapkan dapat berjalan semakin optimal dan berkelanjutan.
“Dan administrasi organisasinya kami targetkan 2026 akhir ini selesai,” katanya.
Sementara itu, Direktur Jenderal Bina Keuangan Daerah Kementerian Dalam Negeri Agus Fatoni mengatakan, pihaknya akan terus memberikan dukungan kepada Pemprov Sumut.
Ia berharap Sumut terus berkembang dan semakin maju sehingga mampu meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat serta memberikan kontribusi besar bagi pembangunan nasional.
“Makanya kita support dan kita perjuangkan betul Sumut ini, Sumut akan terus bisa jauh lebih maju, lebih berkembang, masyarakatnya sejahtera, Sumut punya kontribusi besar bagi nasional,” kata Fatoni.
Komisaris Utama Jasa Raharja Aan Suhanan mengatakan, pihaknya juga akan terus berkolaborasi dengan Pemprov Sumut. Kolaborasi tersebut antara lain diarahkan untuk menekan angka kecelakaan lalu lintas dan meningkatkan kepatuhan masyarakat dalam membayar Pajak Kendaraan Bermotor (PKB).
“Mudah-mudahan kita bisa terus berkolaborasi dalam hal tersebut,” kata Aan.
Turut hadir pada kesempatan tersebut Pj Sekretaris Daerah Provinsi Sumut Timur Tumanggor, Kepala Badan Pendapatan Daerah Sumut Sutan Tolang Lubis, dan Kepala Dinas Perhubungan Sumut Yuda Pratiwi Setiawan. ***rel
