Bobby Nasution Ensures Public Services Remain Active in 18 Flood- and Landslide-Affected Regions

North Sumatra Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution has ensured that government administration and public services in the 18 flood- and landslide-affected regions remain operational.

These services are crucial to ensuring that the population continues to receive optimal public services, even during emergencies.

This was announced by the Governor of North Sumatra during a meeting with the Deputy Minister of State Apparatus Strengthening and Bureaucratic Reform, Purwadi Arianto, at the Governor’s office at Jalan Pangeran Diponegoro No. 30, Medan, on Monday, February 23, 2026.

Community health centers are central to the improvements

Governor Bobby Nasution stated that two villages were buried under mud due to the floods and landslides. Both villages are located in the Tukka and Sorkam districts.

Initially, several access roads to the affected villages, particularly to Central Tapanuli (Tapteng), were closed. The provincial government of North Sumatra is grateful that the assistance from the central government has benefited the community and the local government.

“During the disaster, the village government, including the village office, was severely affected. However, after the disaster, all government functions in the affected districts/towns were fully operational again. The most significant improvements during the disaster were found in the hospitals and health centers,” said Bobby.

At the end of last year, the provincial government of North Sumatra declared a state of emergency through a decree from the governor to accelerate recovery in the areas affected by floods and landslides.

Digitalization to Enhance Public Services

In addition, the provincial government of North Sumatra provided assistance to the affected areas, including the distribution of basic food packages through disaster relief posts by officials of the North Sumatra Bapeg. Furthermore, 2 billion rupiah (approximately US$100,000) in aid was provided to local governments affected by the floods.

Earlier, Deputy Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Purwadi Arianto stated that the purpose of his visit to North Sumatra was to ensure that government administration and public services in disaster-affected areas continue to function adaptively, integrated, and accountably.

This includes improving the governance of government services, protecting civil servants, ensuring flexible work mechanisms for civil servants, integrating digital government services, and protecting government records as a foundation for the sustainability of the bureaucracy.

“It is important that digital public services can be implemented in all sectors, such as vehicle registration and land registry. This digitalization is aimed at streamlining public service delivery,” he said.

The meeting was also attended by North Sumatra Deputy Governor Surya, Assistant General Administration Officer Muhammad Suib, Head of the North Sumatra Provincial Civil Service Office (Bapeg) Sutan Tolang Lubis, Head of the Communications and Information Technology Office Erwin Hotmansah Harahap, Head of the Organization Office Dedi Jaminsyah Putra Harahap, and other senior officials from the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform. ***obs
