Bobby Nasution becomes first governor to work in Nias
The Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, has made history as the first governor to work in the Nias Islands since the province was established 78 years ago.
This step demonstrates the government’s determination to accelerate development and catch up on the island’s backlog.

Bobby Nasution’s presence in Nias is not merely symbolic, but is accompanied by various concrete steps to address the community’s problems.
The head of the North Sumatra Communication and Information Bureau, Erwin Hotmansah Harahap, stated that this is the first time since the establishment of the province of North Sumatra that the term “working in Nias” has been used.
Governor Bobby Nasution has even announced that he will work in the region for three months, alternating with Vice Governor Surya.
“Previous governors may have visited Nias regularly, but the term ‘having an office on Nias’ has only been used since the governorship of Bobby Nasution. And this is the first time that a governor actually has an office on the Nias Islands, with the aim of promoting the development of this region,” said Erwin in his office.

During his week-long visit to the Nias Islands from July 15 to 20, 2026, Bobby Nasution promoted a number of strategic programs.
These include, among others, the construction of two schools, SMKN 1 Gido and SMA Unggulan Sukma, accelerating repairs to the road between West Nias and South Nias, the construction of the Mo’awo bridge and a Ro-Ro port, improving healthcare in South Nias, encouraging the revival of the megalithic sites Tetegewo and Bawomataluo, and providing assistance to fishermen and the community in West Nias.
“In just one week, the governor’s presence on Nias has had an extraordinary impact. We are working hard to realize Mr. Bobby Nasution’s dream: to develop Nias and catch up,” said Erwin.
In the second week of his stay, Vice Governor Surya of North Sumatra will continue his work on the Nias Islands. Afterward, Bobby Nasution is expected to return to Nias to further address various development issues in the region.

Currently, four districts on the Nias Islands are underdeveloped: Nias Regency, North Nias, South Nias, and West Nias. This situation is one of the main reasons why Bobby Nasution prioritizes accelerated development on the archipelago.
“The governor and vice governor will continue to alternate in Nias. Both will work hard to solve the problems on Nias. We hope that this will receive the full support of the entire community,” added Erwin. ***REL
