United Teochew Association of North Sumatra Celebrates 2026 Moon Festival with Warmth and Togetherness

 

A warm atmosphere of togetherness prevailed during the 2026 Teochew Moon Festival, organized by the United Teochew Association of North Sumatra in Medan on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Committee chairman Amrin Susilo Halim stated that this year’s festival was not merely a cultural ceremony but also an occasion to express gratitude for the sense of togetherness shared amidst common challenges.

“This year’s Moon Festival is simple yet meaningful. Its essence lies in expressing gratitude for the harmony and friendship within the Teochew community family,” he explained.

He added that various cultural activities were organized, ranging from traditional artistic performances to activities for the whole family.

Amrin further noted that this tradition symbolizes the preservation of ancestral heritage while simultaneously instilling the values ​​of togetherness and gratitude in the younger generation.

“Beyond strengthening family ties, this festival serves as a means to preserve culture, ensuring the younger generation remains familiar with and proud of their traditions,” he said.

He explained that 520 people attended the event this year. “Hopefully, this event can continue annually and further strengthen ties,” he stated.

The Moon Festival is known as a symbol of the perfectly round full moon, representing unity, blessings, and prayers for the light that will rise after the darkness.

Also in attendance were the Chairman of the North Sumatra Teochew Association, Juswan; the Vice-Chairman of the North Sumatra Teochew Association, Associate Professor Dr. Agus Susanto; Secretary-General Jacob Lie; and the Chairman of the Hasan Basri Halim Foundation. Suasana penuh kehangatan dan kebersamaan terasa dalam perayaan Teochew Mooncake Festival 2026 yang digelar oleh Perkumpulan Teochew Bersatu Sumatera Utara di Medan, Minggu, 4 Oktober 2026.

Tahun ini, festival yang dikenal sebagai malam purnama penuh syukur itu mengusung konsep kesederhanaan sebagai bentuk refleksi atas kondisi ekonomi sekaligus upaya mempererat silaturahmi antar anggota sesama suku Teochew.

Ketua Panitia, Amrin Susilo Halim mengatakan, penyelenggaraan festival tahun ini bukan hanya seremonial budaya, tetapi juga momentum untuk mensyukuri kebersamaan di tengah tantangan yang dihadapi bersama.

“Festival Mooncake kali ini kami adakan dengan sederhana, namun tetap sarat makna. Intinya adalah bersyukur atas keharmonisan keluarga dan silaturahmi yang terjalin antara anggota Teochew,” jelasnya.

Dikatakannya, ada berbagai kegiatan budaya digelar, mulai dari penampilan seni tradisional hingga kegiatan keluarga.

Amrin menambahkan, tradisi ini merupakan simbol menjaga warisan leluhur sekaligus mengajarkan generasi muda tentang nilai kebersamaan dan rasa syukur.

“Selain mempererat hubungan keluarga, festival ini juga menjadi sarana melestarikan budaya agar generasi muda tetap mengenal dan bangga terhadap tradisinya,” katanya.

Dijelaskannya, tahun ini sebanyak 520 orang menghadiri kegiatan tersebut. “Harapannya, semoga kegiatan ini terus bisa diadakan setiap tahunnya dan silaturahmi bisa lebih erat lagi,” jelasnya.

Festival Mooncake dikenal sebagai simbol purnama yang bulat sempurna, melambangkan kesatuan, keberkahan, dan doa agar kehidupan menjadi terang setelah kegelapan.

Selain itu, dalam kegiatan ini juga dihadiri oleh Ketua Perkumpulan Teochew Sumut, Juswan; Wakil Ketua Perkumpulan Teochew Sumut, Assoc Prof Dr Agus Susanto; Sekjen Jacob Lie dan Ketua Yayasan Hasan Basri Halim.
