UHC Program Guarantees Medan City Residents Get Free Health Care
Health care prepared by the government is not only to provide services in health facilities (faskes), such as health centers and hospitals to the community, but its scope is much wider than that.
“The scope of health insurance is very broad, not only services in hospitals. But also about family health, environmental health, availability of clean water, and many other things,” said Medan City DPRD Member from the NasDem Party Faction, Dr. Faisal Arbie when holding a Socialization of Medan City Regulation Number 4 of 2012, concerning the Medan City Health System on Jalan Negara, Kelurahan Pahlawan, Medan Perjuangan, Medan City, on June 15, 2025.
Free Health Insurance
The NasDem Party politician who is familiarly called Arbie said that currently the Medan City Government has a Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program that guarantees people to get free health care by only bringing their ID cards.
“Through UHC, Medan City residents can get free health insurance by only showing their ID cards. Alhamdulillah, UHC services will continue to be improved in the future, including in hospitals owned by the Medan City Government, especially the Pirngadi Regional Hospital,” said the Member of Commission 3 of the Medan DPRD.
On the occasion which was also attended by representatives of Medan Perjuangan District, Pahlawan Village Head, Health Service, Social Service, SatPol PP, and representatives of Medan City BPJS Kesehatan, Arbie also answered many questions and aspirations from the public regarding health.
Among them, regarding public concerns about the elimination of the BPJS Kesehatan program, especially the UHC program in Medan City.
The UHC Program Will Continue to be Improved by the Medan City Government
Regarding this, Arbie emphasized that the UHC program continues to run and will continue to be improved by the Medan City Government.
“That’s just an issue. In fact, the regional income capacity (of the Medan City Government) is still able to continue the UHC program. In fact, this program continues to be improved,” he said.
Arbie also answered complaints from the public regarding whether or not there is a special program from the Medan City Government for children with special needs.
Arbie clearly stated that all Medan City residents, including those with special needs, have the right to receive health services and other services from the Medan City Government.
“Actually, if there is no special program, you can apply for it. You can attach a statement of poverty from the Village Office, then submit it to the Social Service, then it will be taken to the relevant service as needed,” he said.
Development of Dr. Pirngadi Hospital
On that occasion, Arbie also invited the people of Medan City to support the government to continue developing Dr. Pirngadi Hospital as a hospital owned by the Medan City Government.
“Don’t be afraid to be referred to Pirngadi Hospital, currently Pirngadi Hospital is much better. In the future, the Medan City Government will also continue to pay attention to services at Pirngadi Hospital Medan so that it can provide maximum health services to the community,” he concluded.
Benefits of the UHC Program
Since the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program was implemented on December 1, 2022 by the Mayor of Medan Bobby Nasution, Medan City residents have felt the benefits of the program.
The UHC program is currently a flagship program run by the Medan City Government as a form of improving health services to the community.
With the UHC program, Medan residents who are not yet registered as JKN-KIS (National Health Insurance – Indonesia Healthy Card) participants at BPJS (Social Security Administering Body) Health can seek treatment at the hospital (RS).
This UHC program can also be utilized by Medan residents who are in arrears with JKN-KIS contributions.
In this UHC program, there are 48 hospitals in Medan that collaborate with BPJS Kesehatan.
The hospitals consist of 4 types, both government and private. Among others, Type A (2 hospitals) Type B (12 hospitals), Type C (30 hospitals) and Type D (4 hospitals). ***
