Toba Caldera Ferry Crew Member Dies by Hanging
The captain of the Toba Caldera Ferry (KMP), Tunggul Simanjuntak (52), died by hanging at Mulia Raja Port, Balige District, Toba.
Balige Police Chief Libertius Siahaan said the victim was found by his colleagues around 2:00 PM (WEB) on Friday (February 20, 2026).
Crew Member Searched Extensively
The victim’s whereabouts had been unknown since morning. Colleagues had searched his room for him, but he was not there. The door was unlocked, and his mobile phone was on the table.
Police suspect the victim committed suicide out of frustration over his heart condition.
The victim is suspected of committing suicide out of frustration over his illness.
According to information from colleagues, doctors advised the victim to undergo bypass surgery.
“The victim had no problems at work and had a good relationship with his colleagues,” said the police chief.
