The Prof. Dr. M. Ildrem Psychiatric Hospital offers teleconsultation and day treatment
The Prof. Dr. M. Ildrem Psychiatric Hospital (RSJ) continues to develop in order to improve the quality of mental health care for the community. This hospital, owned by the provincial government of North Sumatra (Pemprov), offers various innovations, including digital teleconsultation and a day treatment program to increase access to care and improve the quality of patient rehabilitation.
The Director of the Prof. Dr. M. Ildrem Psychiatric Hospital, Sri Suriani Purnamawati, stated that teleconsultation is one of the innovations currently being implemented. Through this service, people can consult a psychologist online without having to visit the hospital in person.

“Teleconsultation is a digital consultation. It is a psychological service that increases access to mental healthcare. You can receive psychological help without having to come to the hospital,” said Sri Suriani Purnamawati during a press conference of the Bureau of Communication and Information of North Sumatra in the Dekranasda lobby of North Sumatra, at the Governor’s office on Jalan Diponegoro in Medan.
According to Sri, the presence of this digital service is expected to reduce the stigma that prevents some people from undergoing a psychological examination in hospitals.
“This digital psychological service makes it easier for the public to access mental healthcare, allowing them to consult with psychologists without having to go to the hospital in person,” she said.
In addition to teleconsultation, the Prof. Dr. M. Ildrem Psychiatric Hospital has also developed a day treatment program as part of psychosocial rehabilitation. Thanks to this program, patients do not need to be admitted to the hospital. They can simply drop by in the morning to participate in various activities aimed at improving social skills and independence.

The various activities offered are tailored to daily routines and range from spiritual guidance to developing skills based on the patient’s interests.
“During the rehabilitation day care, there are spiritual activities, religious studies, church services, and activities aimed at developing skills. For example, if a patient has painting as a hobby, he or she can paint,” says Sri.
To ensure optimal care, the Prof. Dr. M. Ildrem Psychiatric Hospital also offers a pick-up and drop-off service for patients who require it. This program is currently active.
