The fight against drugs in North Sumatra
The Provincial Government of North Sumatra (Pemprov Sumut) has confirmed its determination to consistently combat drug trafficking through various preventive and enforcement measures.
One of the efforts being intensified is joint patrolling in strategic areas suspected of being drug entry points, as well as monitoring areas prone to juvenile delinquency.

As part of these measures, the Provincial Government of North Sumatra has deployed personnel from the Public Order Service (Satpol PP) for joint patrols in Tanjungbalai and Asahan. The patrols focus on areas suspected of being drug entry points, nightclubs, and locations prone to juvenile delinquency.
Muttaqien Hasrimy, head of the Satpol PP in North Sumatra, stated that drug entry routes are becoming increasingly vulnerable due to the structured distribution network. He made this statement during a press conference of the North Sumatra Communication and Information Bureau in the North Sumatra Dekranasda lobby at the North Sumatra Governor’s office in Medan.
“Therefore, the Public Order Service (Satpol PP), together with personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), is conducting joint patrols at vulnerable locations this year,” said Muttaqien.

In addition, the North Sumatra Satpol PP, together with personnel from the joint armed forces, is also patrolling a number of nightlife venues. During these activities, urine tests are conducted on both visitors and managers of the venues.
These operations will be continued. Previously, the provincial government of North Sumatra deployed approximately 2,000 personnel from the Satpol PP, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to maintain order in nightlife venues.
In addition to enforcement, the Satpol PP of North Sumatra also implements a prevention program aimed at students. Through the Student Partners program, the provincial government of North Sumatra informs the younger generation about the dangers of drugs and motorcycle gangs.
“Our fundamental problem is drugs. As soon as someone comes into contact with them, it has a very harmful domino effect, especially for his or her family. We believe that if the drug problem can be tackled, other forms of crime will also decrease significantly,” said Muttaqien. ***rel
