School principals are reminded not to commit extortion

North Sumatra Governor Muhammad Afif Bobby Nasution presented appointment decrees (SK) to 248 principals of public secondary schools, vocational schools, and special education schools in North Sumatra. On the occasion, Bobby reminded the principals to avoid extortion.

“I ask for your full understanding of financial management so that there will be no more financial problems in schools, no more extortion, and no more children burdened by the cost of their education,” Bobby said after presenting the decree appointing the principals of secondary schools, vocational schools, and special education schools (SLB) in the province of North Sumatra. The presentation took place in the Raja Inal Siregar Hall of the Office of the Governor of North Sumatra, Jalan Diponegoro No. 30, Medan, on Monday, January 19, 2026.

All secondary schools, vocational schools, and special education schools in North Sumatra will become free

To ease the burden on students, Bobby aims to make all secondary schools, vocational schools, and special education schools in North Sumatra free by 2029. This target could even be brought forward to 2027 or 2028.

“Our goal is for all schools in North Sumatra to have free education.” “We want to achieve free education in North Sumatra by 2029. This year, in addition to Nias, we are adding five more schools in disaster-affected areas, so we should be able to make progress. Because we added more schools this year, we can make progress as early as 2027 or 2028,” said Bobby.

Bobby also emphasized the importance of improving the quality of students in North Sumatra. He believes that student quality still needs improvement, as evidenced by university entrance scores and Academic Proficiency Test (APT) results.

“Therefore, the teaching staff and all teachers must understand the learning processes so that the low average scores in North Sumatra can improve,” Bobby said.

Bobby Nasution’s message to school principals

Governor Bobby Nasution advised school principals to work well together, achieve all objectives, and fulfill the vision and mission of the North Sumatra provincial government. This forms the basis for performance evaluations.

“Congratulations on your appointment. I hope that the responsibility entrusted to you will benefit the students,” Bobby said.

The 248 school principals include 161 secondary school principals, 80 vocational school principals, and 7 special education school principals. Also present were North Sumatra Deputy Governor Surya, North Sumatra Provincial Acting Regional Secretary Sulaiman Harahap, and heads of relevant regional government agencies. ***rel
