Rescue workers from the Labusel Regency Regional Disaster Management (BPBD) and local residents are currently still searching for the suspect in the river.

According to information gathered by reporters at the scene on Friday (January 30), NP and his friend, ACH, alias L, 37, a resident of Bangai Village in Torgamba District, were in a field in the village around 3:15 PM that afternoon. Suddenly, a team from the Labusel Police Narcotics Unit arrived and arrested the two men.

One of the two suspects resisted and fled.

After a search, officers took NH and L to a police car for further investigation. NH, who was being held by police, resisted and eventually managed to escape.

The man then jumped into the Barumun River. At that moment, local residents saw NH, who was in the middle of the river, being swept away by the strong current and drowning. He never resurfaced.

“Initially, two people were arrested by the police, but one of them managed to escape while being taken to the car. The man then jumped into the Barumun River and was swept away,” said local resident Udin.

Local residents also assisted in the search for the swept-away suspect.

Local residents witnessed the incident and tried to locate NH, but he was not found.

The BPBD (Bureau of Public Fire Services) rescue team from Labusan district was dispatched to the scene, but by Friday afternoon, NH had still not been found.

Acting village chief Dewi Daulay confirmed when asked that one of her residents had been swept away by the Barumun River. According to her, BPBD officers, the police, and local residents were still searching.

“It’s true that someone was swept away by the current, and we’re still searching for him. I don’t know exactly how the drowning occurred,” she said curtly.***
