Dozens of red fire trucks have been on standby for three days at the sandal factory fire

On Thursday, January 29th, the third day after the fire, thick smoke was still visible at the Swallow sandal factory on Jl. KL. Yos Sudarso, kilometer 6.5, in Tanjung Mulia village, Medan Deli district.

Dozens of red fire trucks from the Medan Municipal Fire Department were still driving back and forth around the factory to extinguish the fire, which had not yet been completely extinguished by firefighters.

The thick smoke, which had not yet been contained, hung near the main entrance, while the flames and thick smoke had been extinguished in several places.

Since Tuesday evening (January 27), workers have been streaming to the fire site at Jalan KL. Yos Sudarso, km. 6.5, Medan Deli District, Medan City, to check on the factory and get the latest information about their fate after their livelihoods were destroyed by the fire.

One woman said she goes to the fire site every day to get the latest updates from the management of the company, which has been in business for 50 years.

“I come to the fire site every day to check on the condition of the factory after the fire. Many of my colleagues also come and monitor the situation daily while waiting at the factory gate,” said a worker known as Mama.

Mama said she has worked at the sandal factory for 33 years and never expected a fire to break out.

“When the fire broke out, I didn’t go to work because I was working the first shift, while the workers who had come that evening were working the third shift,” Mama said.

Mama hopes company management will pay attention to the plight of the workers and day laborers.***
