Prosecutor General urges moral and professional conduct of new public prosecutors
The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Indonesia, ST Burhanuddin, led the closing ceremony of the Public Prosecutor Training (PPPJ) cohort LXXXIII (83), first cohort, 2026, which took place at the Office for Education and Training of the Indonesian Public Prosecution Service.
During this ceremony, the candidate public prosecutors were officially sworn in after an intensive training of approximately four months.

In his speech, the Prosecutor General emphasized that the oath taken by the new public prosecutors during the swearing-in ceremony is not merely a ceremonial occasion, but a sacred commitment that connects the spiritual and moral integrity of the individual with God Almighty, the State, and all the inhabitants of Indonesia.
Given the broad powers of a public prosecutor, from investigation and prosecution to execution, integrity, morality, and professional conduct are of essential importance for this position.
“I do not need prosecutors who are smart but immoral, nor prosecutors who are smart but honest. What I need are prosecutors who are smart, honest, and moral,” declared the Attorney General.
During this training, five participants from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) also received their diplomas. They are expected to further strengthen interinstitutional synergy, particularly in the areas of law enforcement regarding military crimes and professional and dignified cooperation.

“As new candidates for the position of Attorney General, these newly appointed prosecutors must prepare for renewal and act as agents of change who have the courage to change the corrupt, lazy, and feudal work culture that may still prevail,” stated the Attorney General.
The prosecutors were instructed to uphold the idealistic values they developed during their training and not allow these ideals to be eroded by the influx of bad habits into their new position. Furthermore, the Attorney General urged public prosecutors to adopt a steadfast attitude towards societal reality.
A public prosecutor must possess legal insight capable of allowing conscience to weigh in when making decisions based on substantive justice, because true justice is not found in books or codes, but stems from conscience.

“The role of the public prosecutor as a process leader requires a high degree of intellectual readiness in the application of the new Criminal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure. This is because the tasks of law enforcement are directly related to the most fundamental human rights, such as liberty and property,” the Attorney General added.
According to him, even the smallest error in the analysis and application of the law can have fatal consequences for a person’s life and undermine the legitimacy of the law itself. Therefore, the professionalism of a public prosecutor must be measured by the sharpness of scientific and systematic legal arguments, and not be based on assumptions or public opinion.
Another important point that the Attorney General emphasized in this era of easy access to information is the conduct of law enforcement officers in their daily lives. He stressed that all ranks must adhere to the Attorney General’s letter regarding promoting sensible behavior when using social media, by always observing proper manners, ethics, and courtesy.
“Public prosecutors are strictly prohibited from uploading content that displays a luxurious or hedonistic lifestyle, especially when wearing their public prosecutor uniform. As role models for the community, public prosecutors are required to demonstrate a simple and modest lifestyle in their social lives,” the Attorney General emphasized.
Finally, the Attorney General reminded them that the path of true service awaits them throughout the archipelago, from the western tip of Sabang to the eastern tip of Merauke. He also urged the new public prosecutors to always uphold the esprit de corps and to embody the values of the Tri Krama Adhyaksa in every exercise of their duties.
These young public prosecutors are expected to act with courage and integrity, in a spirit of unity and consistency, to uphold the dignity and honor of the Indonesian Public Prosecution Service. ***adh
