Praise the Teachers: A Program to Help Teachers Adapt to AI in the Classroom

Telkomsel launched Terpujilah GURU, a training and competency development program for teachers in Indonesia. The program helps teachers adapt to technological developments, including artificial intelligence (AI), while simultaneously strengthening their role as educators, creators, and innovators.

The Terpujilah GURU program organized a roadshow in Medan, where teachers from various schools were invited to discuss the wise use of technology.

This discussion addressed the growing challenges facing teachers, as the results of the Teacher Competency Test (UKG) indicate that approximately 81% of teachers in Indonesia do not meet the minimum requirements. This makes strengthening teachers’ capacity all the more important.

Agung E. Setyobudi, General Manager Mobile Consumer Business for the North Sumatra region of Telkomsel, stated that Telkomsel, guided by the philosophy of ‘Delightful Service’, empowers teachers to create a better day and a brighter future.

“Terpujilah GURU was developed to help teachers effectively utilize technology to make learning more effective, creative, and impactful,” said the director.

Through the practical and applicable learning platform of Terpujilah GURU, participants are expected to be able to immediately apply new skills in their teaching activities, such as using AI for productivity, creating creative educational content, and designing visual teaching materials.

Terpujilah GURU takes place from May to September 2026 in various cities and aims to reach more than 1,000 teachers through the phases of Scouting, Screening, Academy, Mentoring, and Bootcamp. To have a broader impact on the quality of education, participating teachers receive various benefits, including: improved digital skills, a portfolio of applicable teaching materials, a network of innovative teacher communities, coaching, and recognition.

The Director of The Language Access, Elnoviamy MA, expressed his appreciation for Telkomsel’s initiative to strengthen teachers’ competence. “Strengthening teachers’ digital literacy is essential to ensure that education aligns with current developments and the needs of students. We hope that this program can be further expanded so that more teachers can experience its benefits,” said the spokesperson.

To sustainably increase the impact, the Terpujilah GURU program also collaborates with communities and professional organizations, such as the Indonesian Teachers’ Association (PGRI), the Indonesian Teachers’ Association (IGI), MGMP, Digital Warrior Teachers, Pre-Service PPG, The Language Access, and 1,000 Teachers.

With a collaborative and needs-based approach, Telkomsel hopes that Terpujilah GURU can contribute to a joint effort to improve the quality of Indonesian education while simultaneously preparing the next generation for the digital age. ***REL
