Prabowo Cabinet Reshuffle Replaces Purbaya: Suahasil Nazara Named New Finance Minister
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Suahasil Nazara and administered his oath of office as Minister of Finance—replacing Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa—during a cabinet reshuffle at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday, September 14, 2026.
“I appoint Professor Suahasil Nazara, Ph.D., as Minister of Finance of the Red and White Cabinet for the remainder of the 2024–2029 term,” said Nanik Purwanti, Deputy for Administrative Affairs at the Ministry of State Secretariat, while reading the presidential decree appointing the Finance Minister.

After the presidential decree was read, Suahasil took the oath of office, administered by Prabowo. “I swear by God that I will remain faithful to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and strictly observe all laws and regulations in my service to the nation and the state,” Suahasil said while taking the oath.
“In carrying out my duties, I will uphold the highest professional ethics, work to the best of my ability, and fully assume my responsibilities,” he continued.
Prior to his inauguration as Minister of Finance, Suahasil had served as Deputy Minister of Finance since October 25, 2019.
Suahasil Nazara earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Indonesia (UI) in 1994. He subsequently obtained a master’s degree from Cornell University in the United States in 1997. He continued his academic studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he completed his doctorate in economics in 2003.

Suahasil’s academic career began in 1999 as a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Indonesia (FEB UI). Ten years later, in 2009, he was appointed Professor of Economics at the university.
Throughout his academic career, Suahasil held various positions, including Head of the Postgraduate Economics Program (2004–2005), Head of the Demographic Institute (2005–2008), and Head of the Department of Economics (2009–2013).
Outside academia, Suahasil served on the Minister of Finance’s support team for fiscal decentralization from 2009 to 2011. During the same period, he also served as Vice-Chair of the Committee for Monitoring the Implementation of Regional Autonomy, a role he held until 2015.
From 2010 to 2015, Suahasil Nazara was the Policy Working Group Coordinator at the Secretariat of the National Team for the Acceleration of Poverty Reduction (TNP2K). He was also a member of the National Economic Committee (2013–2014).

Suahasil continued his career at the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu), where he was appointed Head of the Fiscal Policy Agency (BKF) on October 31, 2016. Reshuffle Kabinet Prabowo, Purbaya Dicopot : Suahasil Nazara Menteri Keuangan yang Baru
Presiden RI Prabowo Subianto melantik dan mengambil sumpah jabatan terhadap Suahasil Nazara sebagai Menteri Keuangan menggantikan Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa dalam reshuffle kabinet, di Istana Negara, Jakarta, Senin, 14 September 2026.
“Mengangkat Profesor Suahasil Nazara PhD sebagai Menteri Keuangan Kabinet Merah Putih dengan sisa jabatan 2024-2029,” kata Deputi Bidang Administrasi Aparatur Kementerian Sekretariat Negara Nanik Purwanti saat membacakan keputusan presiden pengangkatan Menteri Keuangan.
Setelah Keppres dibacakan, Suahasil membacakan sumpah jabatannya dipandu oleh Prabowo. “Demi Tuhan saya berjanji bahwa saya akan setia kepada Undang-Undang Dasar Negara Republik Indonesia tahun 1945 serta akan menjalankan segala peraturan perundang-undangan dengan selurus-lurusnya demi darma bakti saya kepada bangsa dan negara,” kata Suahasil saat membacakan sumpah jabatan.
“Bahwa saya dalam menjalankan tugas jabatan akan menjunjung tinggi etika jabatan, bekerja dengan sebaik-baiknya, dengan penuh rasa tanggung jawab,” sambung dia.
Sebelum dilantik sebagai Menkeu, Suahasil menjabat sebagai Wakil Menteri Keuangan sejak 25 Oktober 2019.
Suahasil Nazara merupakan lulusan S1 Ekonomi Universitas Indonesia (UI) pada 1994. Setelah itu, ia memperoleh gelar S2 dari Cornell University, Amerika Serikat (AS), pada 1997. Pendidikan akademiknya berlanjut di University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign dan menyelesaikan program doktoral bidang ekonomi pada 2003.
Pada 1999, karier Suahasil di dunia akademik dimulai ketika menjadi dosen Fakultas Ekonomi dan Bisnis Universitas Indonesia (FEB UI). Sepuluh tahun kemudian, ia dikukuhkan sebagai Guru Besar Ilmu Ekonomi dari universitas tersebut pada 2009.
Selama berkiprah di lingkungan akademik, Suahasil pernah menduduki sejumlah posisi seperti Kepala Program Studi Pascasarjana Ilmu Ekonomi (2004–2005), Kepala Lembaga Demografi (2005–2008), serta Ketua Departemen Ilmu Ekonomi (2009–2013).
Di luar dunia akademik, Suahasil pernah tercatat sebagai anggota Tim Asistensi Menteri Keuangan bidang Desentralisasi Fiskal pada 2009–2011. Pada periode yang sama, ia juga dipercaya menjadi Wakil Ketua Komite Pengawas Pelaksanaan Otonomi Daerah hingga 2015.
Suahasil Nazara juga pernah menjabat sebagai Koordinator Kelompok Kerja Kebijakan di Sekretariat Tim Nasional Percepatan Penanggulangan Kemiskinan (TNP2K) pada 2010–2015. Ia juga menjadi anggota Dewan Komite Ekonomi Nasional (2013–2014).
Karier Suahasil di Kementerian Keuangan (Kemenkeu) kemudian ditetapkan sebagai Kepala Badan Kebijakan Fiskal (BKF) pada 31 Oktober 2016. Pada 25 Oktober 2019, Suahasil dipercaya menjadi Wakil Menteri Keuangan (Wamenkeu) era Presiden ke-7 Republik Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi). ***obs
