North Sumatra strengthens education on the Nias Islands
The Provincial Government of North Sumatra (Pemprov) continues to strengthen the education sector on the Nias Islands through the construction of new classrooms at various vocational schools (SMK).
The Vice-Governor of North Sumatra, Surya, emphasized that the improvement of educational facilities must be accompanied by high-quality education to shape an intelligent and characterful generation.

During his visit to the Nias Islands, Vice-Governor Surya visited SMK Negeri 1 and SMK Negeri 3 in Gunungsitoli. Both schools are receiving a new classroom each to increase capacity.
The visit was intended to check whether the construction of the new classrooms is proceeding according to plan. The work, particularly the preparation of the foundations, is currently in the initial phase. The Vice-Governor paid special attention to the quality of the work and the timely completion.
“Please adjust it to the plan if the measurements have already been taken. This must therefore be implemented to the maximum extent, not haphazardly,” said Surya during an inspection of the construction of SMK Negeri 1 and SMK Negeri 3 Gunungsitoli, accompanied by Titiek Sugiharti, Expert Staff I of the North Sumatra Family Welfare Movement (TP PKK), and heads of regional government agencies (OPD).
In addition to physical development, Surya emphasized the importance of improving the quality of education.
He stated that teachers play a strategic role as role models for students and therefore must be able to act ethically and set a good example, both within the school environment and in the community.

“Because teachers are role models for students, you must act ethically, especially outside of school,” he said, accompanied by the Mayor of Gunungsitoli, Sowa’a Laoli.
Surya also revealed that he had received appreciation from the local government several times during his stay on the Nias Islands. He is convinced that the presence of the North Sumatra provincial government, through various development programs, has given the inhabitants of the islands new hope.
“When we arrived, the Mayor of Gunungsitoli and the Regent of West Nias said that this was the first time in their lives that they felt the Nias Islands were part of North Sumatra. They found Governor Bobby Nasution’s attention here very valuable,” said Surya.
Meanwhile, Melinus T, the Director of Gunungsitoli State Vocational School 3, and Edid Bestari Zendrato, the Director of Gunungsitoli State Vocational School 5, expressed their appreciation for the visit of the Vice-Governor, who had personally inspected the progress of the construction of the new classrooms.

They expressed their gratitude for the attention the provincial government of North Sumatra is paying to the improvement of educational facilities on the Nias Islands and hoped that construction would proceed according to plan and be put into use soon to support education.
