“This letter of intent is valid for six months as a first step towards a cooperation agreement. Therefore, the commitment of all parties is required to develop a clear roadmap for concrete cooperation,” he said. “Six to nine flights depart daily from North Sumatra to neighboring countries for medical examinations and treatments. Why don’t we manage this market ourselves, so that no government funds flow abroad? However, this potential must be accompanied by improvements in the quality of healthcare in the region, so that people no longer have to travel abroad for equivalent care,” he said.

Basarin further explained that the provincial government of North Sumatra continues to encourage capacity building among healthcare workers through various symposia and seminars, and by facilitating the purchase of medical equipment, including through an Operational Cooperation Program (KSO). “Hopefully, the letter of intent will not be extended within the next six months, but converted into a cooperation agreement (PKS). This also reflects the governor’s desire to establish an international-class hospital in North Sumatra,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ari Wibowo, Director General of PT Dhirga Surya North Sumatra, stated that the collaboration demonstrates a shared commitment to improving the quality of healthcare for the approximately 15 million inhabitants of North Sumatra.
