Motorcycle theft specialist arrested by police, evidence sold to Medan
A car theft specialist (curanmor), MF, alias G (23), has been arrested by police. He confessed to selling stolen goods (barbut) to Medan.
MF is very active. He has been involved in at least 25 crimes in various regions/cities in North Sumatra.
The suspect, a resident of Penggalangan village in Sei Bamban district, is known to be a member of a gang that has been active since 2025.
Perpetrators stole farmer’s parked motorcycle
This case came to light after Firman (40), a farmer, reported the loss of his Honda Supra 125 motorcycle in January, which was parked on a bank in a rice paddy.
At the time, the victim was weeding the field with his wife and only noticed the motorcycle was missing when he was about to return home.
Sergai police spokesperson, First Inspector LB Manullang, explained that AKP Criminal Investigation Department Chief Binrod Situngkir responded quickly to the report and ordered an operational team led by First Inspector Hendri Ika Pandu Winata, Chief of Criminal Investigation, to locate the motorcycle.
Perpetrator successfully arrested at his home
“The field investigation led to the identification of MF. Officers were then able to raid his home without encountering significant resistance,” said Inspector Manullang.
The in-depth interrogation revealed that MF did not operate alone. He often worked with two accomplices, S and A (currently on the run), and had a very large operating area in Sergai district: Sei Bamban, Dolok Masihul, Tanjung Beringin, and Perbaungan. They also operated outside the area in surrounding areas such as Pematangsiantar and Batu Bara district.
Their modus operandi was to steal motorcycles parked in abandoned locations, such as rice paddies or along the road.
Some of their main targets were Honda Supra 125s, Honda Varios, and Yamaha RX-Kings.
Evidence Sold Online
Most of the stolen motorcycles were sold through online marketplaces on social media or directly to buyers.
In the case of Firman’s motorcycle, the perpetrator admitted selling it to a man named Angga in Medan, who is now on the wanted list.
MF is currently being held in a cell at the Sergai Police Station for his actions. He has been charged under Article 477, paragraph (1), letter f of Law No. 1 of 2023 of the Republic of Indonesia concerning the New Criminal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of nine years.
Police urge the public who believe they have been a victim of car theft within the jurisdiction of the Sergai Police Station to report the incident immediately so that the information and MF’s confession can be verified.***
