Deputy Governor Surya made these remarks in his speech following the swearing-in and appointment of administrative and supervisory officials of the North Sumatra provincial government (Pemprov) in the Raja Inal Siregar (RIS) Hall, located on the second floor of the North Sumatra Governor’s office, on Monday, October 5, 2026.

During the ceremony, 188 administrative and supervisory officials were appointed, comprising 71 administrative officials and 117 supervisory officials from various regional government agencies (OPD).

These officials are expected to shoulder the responsibility of leading and mobilizing the organization, fostering cooperation, motivating staff, resolving issues, and ensuring the smooth functioning of government services.

“I hope this mandate is accepted with gratitude. I also realize that the greater the responsibility, the higher the demands regarding integrity, competence, and exemplary performance,” said Surya, accompanied by various heads of regional government agencies (OPD).

Emphasizing a talent-oriented approach to civil service management, the Deputy Governor stressed that every role must be filled by an individual who possesses the necessary competence, potential, and experience, as well as a passion that aligns with the organization’s needs. Positions should therefore serve as a platform for delivering results, rather than merely a means to exercise authority.

“I want these new appointees to prove that the trust placed in them is well-founded—demonstrated, of course, through concrete work and tangible results. After all, these roles play a vital part in the functioning of the government,” Surya explained.

According to Deputy Governor Surya, the positions held by administrators and supervisors are crucial, as these individuals are directly involved in executing tasks, coordinating staff, overseeing activities, and delivering services to the public.

He therefore encouraged the officials to become drivers of change within their respective departments.

“Ensure effective communication and do not let minor issues escalate. If obstacles arise, coordinate immediately and seek solutions. Most importantly, do not work in isolation. We need a government that operates in a spirit of collaboration and synergy,” he said.

Furthermore, Deputy Governor Surya reminded each regional agency to support one another in carrying out government duties. He emphasized that the public should not view a single regional agency (OPD) in isolation, but rather see the North Sumatra provincial government as a unified whole when it comes to addressing public needs.

“Start working hard; be responsive and disciplined, and stay closer to the community’s issues. Let us ensure that every role yields benefits. Every task should lead to results, and every policy should contribute to improving the quality of service and the well-being of the residents of North Sumatra,” concluded Deputy Governor Surya. ***rel

***rel
