Six undocumented Indonesian migrants were stopped from being sent to Malaysia after the boat they were on was intercepted by the police boat team Beo-5013 of the Korpolairud Baharkam Polri (National Police) (Kopolairud).

The interception took place in the area of ​​Sambau Beach, Nongsa, Batam, Riau Islands (Kepri).

Officers arrested the captain and crew.


“A total of six potential, undocumented Indonesian migrant workers attempting to depart via Sambau Beach in Batam were intercepted by the team early Saturday morning,” said Ody Khowat Setiawan, commander of KP Beo-5013, AKP, on Sunday (March 8, 2026).

Ody explained that the two arrested suspects were ZA (49) and RU (36), both residents of Karimun District in the Riau Islands. ZA was the captain, while RU was a crew member.

Ody continued: The case began when the team was conducting an undercover patrol in the waters off the coast of Nongsa. Officers discovered two perpetrators preparing to let six Indonesian migrant workers, who were waiting on the shore of Sambau Beach in Nongsa, Batam, depart.

The perpetrators received profit/commission per migrant worker.


“ZA received a profit of 3 million rupiah per migrant worker from this activity. RU, meanwhile, received a commission from ZA of 300,000 rupiah per migrant worker for their cooperation in this activity,” he said.

The six migrant workers who were to be sent came from various regions in Indonesia, namely Central Java, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara.***
