Kahiyang Ayu visits Japanese Consulate General in Medan and presents the charm of North Sumatra
The Chairman of the Provincial Crafts Council of North Sumatra (Sumut), Kahiyang Ayu, presented the charm of North Sumatra during a courtesy visit to the residence of the Japanese Consul General in Medan, Furugori Toru.
During the friendly meeting, Kahiyang Ayu presented the various strengths of North Sumatra, ranging from traditional textiles and products from micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to leading tourist destinations such as Lake Toba and Nias.

“Through North Sumatran textiles and SME products, we want to showcase the richness of North Sumatran culture while simultaneously creating opportunities for broader cooperation,” said Kahiyang.
In addition to highlighting the region’s potential, Kahiyang Ayu also shared her experiences with Dekranas’ participation in the 2025 World Expo, or Nisennijūgo-nen Nippon Kokusai Hakurankai/Õsaka-Kansai Banpaku, in Osaka, Japan, last year.
This participation offers a strategic opportunity to present rich Indonesian culture, crafts, and high-quality products to the Japanese public while simultaneously strengthening relations between the two countries.
For his part, Furugori Toru expressed his pride in his posting in Indonesia, particularly in North Sumatra. He indicated that North Sumatra is a province with diverse ethnic groups, tribes, and cultures living harmoniously side by side.

He also said that the natural beauty and hospitality of the North Sumatran people had left a deep impression on him. “I am very proud to have been sent to North Sumatra, because this region is so diverse, multicultural, harmonious, and fascinating. The natural beauty and the friendliness of the people have left a deep impression on me,” said Furugori.
At the end of the meeting, Furugori invited Toru Kahiyang Ayu and the staff of Dekranasda North Sumatra to return to Japan. He also suggested the possibility of closer cooperation in the future, particularly in the fields of culture, tourism, and SME development. ***REL
