Informal workers in the waste sector receive a 50 percent reduction in social security contributions (JKK) and social security contributions (JKM)
Minister of Labour (Menaker) Yassierli emphasized the government’s commitment to providing social security to informal workers in the waste sector.
One of the ways this is being achieved is by reducing contributions for accident insurance (JKK) and death insurance (JKM) by 50 percent. This reduction in the monthly contribution amounts to 8,400 rupiah, from 16,800 rupiah.

“We want 100 percent of Indonesian workers to be covered by social security,” said Yassierli during the joint action to launch social protection for informal workers in the waste sector at the RDF plant in Rorotan, North Jakarta, on Monday, August 10, 2026.
Yassierli explained that the reduced contributions are intended to make social security more affordable for informal workers. This scheme is valid until the end of 2026 and will be evaluated by the government.
“Friends receive a 50 percent discount on contributions to JKK and JKM,” stated Yassierli.
Yassierli hopes that this policy will be continued so that more informal workers receive protection against occupational risks.

On this occasion, Yassierli called workers in the waste sector “environmental heroes” because they play a role in reducing waste ending up in landfills, while simultaneously supporting a circular economy and environmental management.
According to him, this contribution entails significant occupational risks, ranging from biological and chemical hazards and sharp objects to physical accidents. Social security is therefore crucial to ensure that they can work more safely.
The joint action was also attended by the Minister of the Environment/Head of the Environmental Management Agency, Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat, the Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, and the Director General of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, Saiful Hidayat. ***rel
