House burns down, mother and baby deceased, one injured
A house fire in the village of Lolofaoso, Lotu district, North Nias, claimed the lives of a mother and toddler. Another person was seriously injured.
The head of the North Nias police unit (Satpol PP), Hadiran Zega, reported that the fire broke out around 2:00 AM on Wednesday (March 25, 2026). The burned-down house turned out to be owned by Fite Lirma Jaya Zega (36).
Firefighters and police successfully extinguished fire
Residents tried to extinguish the fire using the available resources. However, due to the wooden construction of the house, the fire spread rapidly. Fire department officers (Satpol PP) eventually managed to extinguish the fire, but the house was already completely destroyed. “We put out the fire and evacuated the victims,” said a spokesperson.
Three people lost their lives in this fire. Two of them died: Ferida Gulo (31) and a 2.5-year-old toddler.
Survivor with burns
Another person survived the fire but sustained burns. The victim is currently receiving intensive care at a nearby hospital.
“One person sustained burns and is receiving intensive treatment at the hospital,” said a spokesperson.
Police are still investigating the cause of the fire
He explained that the house burned down quickly because it was made of wood. Furthermore, the deceased worked as a tailor and had a large amount of dust in the house, which accelerated the spread of the fire.
He is handing over the further investigation into the cause of the fire to the police.
