Hospitals in North Sumatra invited to collaborate to improve healthcare quality
Acting (Pj) Provincial Secretary (Sekdaprov) of North Sumatra (Sumut), Sulaiman Harahap, encouraged all hospitals in North Sumatra to continue improving the quality of service by strengthening cooperation among stakeholders. He conveyed this at the opening of the national discussion on improving hospital quality at the Grand Mercure Hotel in Medan.
Sulaiman Harahap noted remarks by the Governor of North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution, and appreciated the organization of national activities in which North Sumatra was chosen as host. According to him, this is part of the responsibility of the Provincial Government of North Sumatra (Pemprov) in strengthening a high-quality healthcare system.

“Building future healthcare services is a theme that is highly relevant to the direction of health development and the development vision of North Sumatra, namely cooperation,” stated Sulaiman. He emphasized that collaboration is not merely a slogan, but must become a work culture in the development of public services, including in the healthcare sector, one of the priority development programs of the Provincial Government of North Sumatra.
“And the transformation of healthcare can only be realized if all stakeholders move forward together, starting with the government, hospitals as referral care institutions, professional organizations, healthcare workers, the world of education, to the community as beneficiaries,” he explained.
Sulaiman also said that the Provincial Government of North Sumatra continues to implement various healthcare transformation programs, including the North Sumatra Berkah Free Treatment Program (Probis), which has been running since October 2025. This program is expected to encourage all healthcare institutions, including hospitals, to continue improving the quality of their services.
“Upgrading involves not only infrastructure, but also improving the quality of service, strengthening the patient safety culture, developing HR competencies, and developing service innovation aimed at the needs of the community,” he said.
According to him, the scope of a quality hospital is determined not only by the facilities it possesses, but also by its ability to provide the best service and win the public’s trust. Therefore, various challenges, such as providing competent healthcare personnel, strengthening facilities and infrastructure, adapting to new standards, and maintaining consistency in service quality, must be a shared concern.
Meanwhile, the Director General of the Hospital Quality and Patient Safety Accreditation Institute, Andi Wahyuningsih Attas, appreciated the support of the Provincial Government of North Sumatra in efforts to improve the quality of hospital services.
According to him, this activity serves as a forum for finding joint solutions and building communication with hospitals. He emphasized that surveyors from accreditation bodies do not have the task of being examiners, but rather to ensure that hospital services operate in accordance with government regulations and to encourage the realization of excellent service. ***rel
