Governor Bobby Nasution’s Program on the Nias Islands: Construction of a Coconut Production Center in North Nias
The Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, plans to build a coconut production center in North Nias. This program aims to increase the added value of coconuts produced by local farmers.
Bobby announced the plan for the construction of the production center during a regional welcome meeting in Lauru Fadoro, North Nias, on Friday, August 7, 2026.

The production center will be equipped with various facilities, including machines for copra production, solar dryers, coconut shelling machines, sorting machines, and other supporting equipment.
In addition to copra production, the production center will also focus on the production of charcoal from coconut shells.
According to data from the North Sumatra Regional Development Planning Agency (Bapperida), the budget for the construction of the coconut production center amounts to 2 billion Indonesian rupees, and construction is scheduled to start this year.
This year, Governor Bobby Nasution has allocated approximately 500 billion Indonesian rupees for the development of the Nias Islands. North Nias is one of the regions benefiting from this development program.

“Last year, we allocated approximately 250 to 300 billion Indonesian rupees (IDR) to the Nias Islands. This year, we have increased the allocation to nearly 500 billion IDR for the Nias Islands. The good news is that this 500 billion IDR is specifically earmarked for North Nias,” said Bobby.
The provincial government of North Sumatra has established three key development themes for the Nias Islands: economic centers, production centers, and tourism. North Nias is designated as one of the production centers on the Nias Islands.
During the event, Bobby also received various requests from the Lauru Fadoro community. These requests were noted and subsequently followed up through the provincial government’s development programs.
Regent Amizaro Waruwu of North Nias indicated that his region has great potential for coconut production. He also expressed his appreciation for the plan to build a coconut processing facility, one of Governor Bobby Nasution’s programs.

“North Nias has enormous potential for tourism and coconut cultivation. These coconuts, more than 30 km from here, are all coconuts. In 2026, the governor will implement various programs in North Nias, including the construction of a coconut house in this village and the laying of various roads,” said Amizaro.
Meanwhile, a resident, Bakti Adil Waruwu, expressed his gratitude for the visit of the Governor of North Sumatra to his village. He hopes that the government’s attention to tourism and the potential of coconut cultivation in North Nias will continue to increase.
