Governor Bobby Nasution willing to connect the aspirations of online motorcycle taxi drivers with the House of Representatives of North Sumatra
Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution of North Sumatra has stated that the provincial government of North Sumatra is willing to connect the aspirations of online motorcycle taxi drivers (Ojol) with members of the House of Representatives of North Sumatra.
This step is being taken to support the drivers in their fight for stricter regulations to protect online transport workers.
Bobby Nasution made this commitment during an audience with online motorcycle taxi drivers of the United Ojol Solidarity (Sobat) at his office in the office of the Governor of North Sumatra, Jalan Diponegoro No. 30, Medan, on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
Present at the audience were Sobat Chairman Timbul Siahaan, board members, representatives of the Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan), and various other involved officials.
During the meeting, Bobby Nasution explained that the government had issued Presidential Decree No. 27 of 2026 regarding the protection of online motorcycle taxi drivers (Ojek Online). According to him, this policy is a positive step that deserves appreciation, as it offers protection to online motorcycle taxi drivers and improves their well-being.
An important point in the decree is the limitation of the deduction of application fees to a maximum of 8 percent for applicants, instead of the previously applicable 20 percent.
“The president’s team has certainly taken into account many factors regarding the demands and needs of the public, particularly the complaints about online motorcycle taxis (ojol). So, first and foremost, let us appreciate this policy,” said Bobby Nasution.

Nevertheless, Bobby understands the drivers’ wish for the decree to be converted into law. However, he believes that drafting a law requires more time and steps, making a presidential decree an instrument that can be issued immediately to address urgent practical needs.
“But we will follow up on this demand. We will also convey it to the House of Representatives (DPR RI) for the North Sumatra constituency. We are prepared to gather online motorcycle taxi drivers to make their wishes known directly. We will also make our concerns known to the central government,” said Bobby Nasution.
On that occasion, Bobby Nasution also expressed his appreciation for the online motorcycle taxi drivers. He emphasized that the Fast Best Results Program (PHTC), through the Free Medical Treatment Program (Probis) or Universal Health Coverage (UHC), guarantees all residents of North Sumatra access to healthcare at facilities that partner with BPJS Kesehatan (Healthcare).
Thanks to this program, tens of thousands of motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol) in North Sumatra can receive free healthcare simply by using their national identity card (KTP).

“We are very grateful to everyone who has paid their BPJS Kesehatan premiums independently. This also applies to drivers who asked the applicator to pay the premiums for them. This has helped the provincial government financially.
Even if you haven’t done so yet, please make use of the UHC program wherever you are, because now you can get free healthcare anywhere, as long as the healthcare facility partners with BPJS Kesehatan,” said Bobby.
Meanwhile, Timbul Siahaan, chairman of Sobat, expressed his appreciation for the efforts of Governor Bobby Nasution, whom he considers a major concern for the well-being of motorcycle taxi drivers.
He acknowledged that drivers had not expected the UHC program to also benefit vulnerable workers like themselves, who face various risks in the field on a daily basis.
“Our demands, sir, at the national level relate to increases in rates for passenger transport, goods and food delivery services, net rates, and the implementation of the Online Transport Act. In Medan, this includes waiving parking fees for parcel and food delivery services, as well as obtaining workers’ compensation insurance through BPJS Ketenagakerjaan,” said Timbul.

Bobby Nasution responded positively and encouraged, among other things, the optimization of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan membership for online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol). The hearing yielded several key points for further investigation, including a review of the waiver of parking fees for online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol) when delivering food and packages. This will be discussed further during the drafting of the associated regulations.
Furthermore, drivers were reminded to continue adhering to traffic rules and to remain actively communicating to monitor applicator policies that are perceived as burdensome for drivers. ***rel
