Protecting Workers with BPJS Employment Benefits

Earlier, Vice Governor Surya read the message from the Minister of Labor of the Republic of Indonesia, Yassierli, who stated that Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) Month is a national opportunity to strengthen the commitment to protecting Indonesian workers and creating a safe, healthy, productive, and dignified work environment.

He explained that Indonesia has approximately 146.54 million workers across diverse sectors, from manufacturing, construction, mining, and plantations to services and the digital economy.

Therefore, OHS management is a crucial foundation for worker protection, increased business productivity, and enhanced national competitiveness.

“OHS is a crucial foundation for worker protection, worker confidence, business productivity, and enhanced national competitiveness,” Surya said.

Occupational Accidents in North Sumatra

However, he acknowledged that national OHS performance still faces significant challenges. Based on data from 2024, 319,224 occupational accidents were reported.

To address these challenges, the Ministry of Labor continues to strengthen the national occupational health and safety system through training and certification, the digital transformation of occupational health and safety services, and strengthening the commitment and integrity of occupational health and safety services with the Occupational Health and Safety Companies (PJK3).

In addition, collaboration with the Social Security Administration (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) and the business community is being strengthened to ensure that the implementation of occupational health and safety is truly present and tangible in the workplace.

On this occasion, Deputy Governor Surya encouraged all stakeholders to use National Occupational Health and Safety Month as an opportunity to strengthen their commitment, improve systems, and build a safe and healthy work culture.

“Occupational health and safety is not just a legal obligation, but a value that gives every worker the right to return home safely,” he emphasized.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Regional Government Departments (OPD) of North Sumatra Province, representatives of companies, unions, and employees from various industrial sectors in North Sumatra. ***obs
