“So far, we have verified the information of 4,500 registered passengers and are currently collecting the tickets. This allows us to assess the seriousness of potential passengers’ intentions,” the spokesperson said.
Potential passengers have two days to collect their tickets
After verification, potential passengers have two days to collect their tickets. If the tickets are not collected within this period, the North Sumatra Transport Agency will contact them. If potential passengers cancel their trip, the Transport Agency’s IT team will delete their registration and send a cancellation notification.
“We are keeping the registration queue open. If passengers cancel, we will reallocate their seats,” he said.
Train passengers have 800 seats available on the Medan-Rantau Prapat route and 500 seats on the Medan-Tanjungbalai route. The ferry offers 400 seats on the Belawan-Batam and Batam-Belawan routes.
Ferry services are also available for travelers returning to the Nias Islands via the Sibolga-Gunungsitoli and Gunungsitoli-Sibolga routes. Travelers are expected to arrive in Sibolga in the evening to board the ferry, which departs at 10:00 PM (WIB).
Investigation of the condition of the road infrastructure on the return route
In addition, the North Sumatran Transport Agency (Dishub) held a coordination meeting regarding transport during Eid al-Fitr and the implementation of free return trips. Various preparations have been made, including vehicle safety checks (RAM checks) at parking lots and terminals, urine tests for drivers, and coordination with Jasa Raharja, the North Sumatra Regional Police Traffic Directorate, the North Sumatra Land Transport Management Agency (BPTD), and the Public Health Agency.
Riris Sijabat, head of the North Sumatra Transport Agency’s Traffic Engineering Department, added that the North Sumatra provincial government, along with the North Sumatra Regional Police Traffic Directorate, the North Sumatra National Road Development Agency (BBPJN), the Regional Development Planning Agency (BPTD), and Jasa Raharja, conducted a study on the road infrastructure along commuter routes during Eid al-Fitr 2026 to ensure road safety and traffic flow. The study focused on three major commuter routes in North Sumatra. The results revealed several bottlenecks prone to traffic jams, accidents and landslides along various routes used by travelers. ***rel
